    Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, with his high spirit and concern to the epidemic of Corona virus which will be effected to Chinese people, he immediately convey the below message to all WU partners in P.R. of China:

    This is to express our deepest sympathies for coronavirus 2019-nCoV outbreak in P.R. of China. We know this is a very difficult situation you are currently confronting. As your counterpart, we reaffirm our relentless moral support to you and the government of P.R. of China for your determination to deal with the problem. I am confident in the capabilities of the government of P.R. of China and relevant agencies to devise measures to deal with the pandemic effectively.     WU – MOUSix New MOU and MOA of Walailak University were established during January to March 2020 which expanded in Italy, Malaysia, Poland, China and Japan.

    The university also is in process of developing new MOU with National University of Laos, University of Pharmacy, Mandalay, Myanmar, and Florida University, USA.

    WU-International College of Dentistry signed MOA with Kunming Medical University , China on 7th January 2020

    Prof. Dr. Xu Biao, Dean of the School of Stomatology, Kunming Medical University, China and Prof. Dr. SittichaiKoontongkaew, Dean of WU International College of Dentistry (WUICD) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at Moklan meeting room, WalailakUniversity on 7th January 2020. The ceremony honored witnessed by Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. SurinMaisrikrod, Vice President for Global Engagement and Faculty Development, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nibondh Tipsrinimit, Dean of School of Liberal Arts, Asst. Prof. Dr. JanyaChanchaichujit, Acting Director of CIA, faculty members, staff and students.

    Under the agreement, WUICD plan to send undergraduate students in Dental Surgery Program to exchange at KMU for two weeks and join develop Master program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery which tentatively study at WU for 2 semesters and study at KMU for 4semesters.

    Delegates from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Malaysia visit WalailakUniversity on 14th January 2020

    On 14th January 2020, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President for Global Engagement and Faculty Development warmly welcomed the delegation form Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Malaysia at Meeting Room 15/2 Administration building, Walailak University. UTHM delegates led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khairul Azman Mohd, Dean, Center for General Studies and Co-curricular, Dr. Zahrul Akmal Hj. Damin, Lecturer from the Center for General Studies and Co-curricular and Dr. Fauziah Ani, Lecturer from the Center for General Studies and Co-curricular. The discussion focused on join organization of the 6th International Conference on Human Sustainability (INSAN) which plan to be held between 19th -20thAugust 2020 at Walailak University since the first conference in 2014 was very success.

    The conference sub-theme will be focused on the following topics:• Women Empowerment• Governance & Social Development• Education, Language and Communication• Islamic Philosophy and Civilization• Science and Technology

    In the afternoon, the delegates visited the School of Liberal Arts to discuss on Student Mobility Program which will be started between 8th - 12th February 2020 at Walailak University, Thailand. The meeting ended with fruitful discussion and concrete plan between the two universities.

    Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) is a public university, situated in Johor, Malaysia and has been ranked 8/10 at national level, and 1378 at International level by QS World University Ranking.

    On 11th February 2020, Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, and Assoc.Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President for Global Engagement and Faculty Development warmly welcomed Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdul Rahman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) UniversitiTun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) at University Senate Reception Room on an occasion of WU-UTHM MOU presenting and officially courtesy call to the president. The MOU between WU and UTHM was initiated since it first visited on 2nd July 2018. The recently visited on 14th January 2020 was finally can conclude the academic collaboration and mutual interest between the two universities.

    Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdul Rahman was also visited and discussed with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suratsavadee Koonlaboon Korkua, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology and Faculty members for the possibility of Visiting Professor Project and Collaborative Research which UTHM can provide a support of 50% for short term research while the development of online teaching was initiated at the meeting. The improvement of relevant subjects must be based on Washington Accord accreditation only.

    Walailak University International College (WUIC) organized Winter School 2020 Global Meets Local @ Nakhon si Thammarat between 9th -13th January 2020

    Recently, Dr. Jittima Sangkhamanee, Acting Dean of the International College, Walailak University revealed that the International College (WUIC) organized an academic camp, WUIC Winter School 2020 Global Meets Local @ Nakhon si Thammarat by having 17 teachers and students from College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), Hong Kong Polytechnic University which was WU – MOU partner, and 6 students from WUIC to jointly exchange experiences through the activity.

    Dr. Jittima Sangkhamanee also said that this is the first activity after signed the MOU. Throughout the 4 days program, the participants have visited various area such as The Royal-initiated Pak Phanang River Basin Development Project, Khiri Wong Village, cruising to experience the waterfront lifestyle at Pak Phanang, Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahaviharnand Suchat Shadow Puppet Museum. They have also learned and practiced Thai cooking such as Tom Yum Kung, Pad Thai, and Chicken Green Curry.

    "Those activities will make students from the International College and Hong Kong Polytechnic learn about Thai culture as well as getting to know Walailak University and Nakhon si Thammarat. Some students have been visited to Thailand only Bangkok and Pattaya and this is the first time for them to explore Nakhon Si Thammarat. The future plan between CPCE and WUIC, there will be a student exchange program, staff visit and also ongoing other cooperative activities which will ligthen up the opportunity and provide international perspective for both students and lecturers between the two organizations, said Dr. Jittima.

    Walailak University join hand with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Songkhla, NST Chinese Association, Thai-Chinese Organization in Nakhon Si Thammarat co- organized Cultural Performance on 16th January 2020 at the Twin Lotus Hotel, Nakhon Si Thammarat province with more than 1,000 participants attended. The performance aim to celebrate the 2020 Chinese New year and remarks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand.

    Mr. Siripat Patkul, governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat, as a chairperson, gave an opening address, Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, spoke on behalf of Walailak University and welcome the delegates, Mr. Chao Proyoonthamrongthiti, honorary president of NST Chinese Association, gave a welcome address and Mr. Nathee Zaelim, President of NST Chinese Association Commerce gave a performance report. Presented at the event, Mr. Wang Gang, Head of the delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Joe Pao Kua, Representative from the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Songkhla, and the delegation from Minzu University of China, Beijing, people of NST, staff and students.

    Celebration 2020 Chinese New Year with dazzlingly Cultural Performance

    The performances performed by the students from Minzu University of China, Beijing and Walailak University students, Thailand. The performances from China represented the culture of various minor groups in China with 19 performances while Walailak University’s performances represented culture of Nakhon Si Thammarat and Southern Thailand. The celebration of Chinese New Year and the 45th anniversary based on cultural exchange will certainly strengthen Thai-China diplomat relationship for long life time.

    Walailak University organized LandSAGE Workshop between 4th – 8th February 2020

    The Center of Excellence for Ecoinformatics, Walailak University has organized LandSAGE Workshop between 4th – 8th February 2020 at Walailak University, Thailand. Focus group of 30 participants came from Laos, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan and Thai. The training opening ceremony honored be presented by Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University while Dr. Jason Haga, Chief Senior Researcher of National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan gave a reporting speech.

    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krisanadej Jaroensutasinee, Head of the Center of Excellence for Ecoinformatics mentioned that LandSAGE is a project supporting decision making and forecasting of natural disaster such as landslide, flooding and mudslide in Southeast Asia by analyzing, navigating and observing of CyberCANOEs.

    The project is in corporation with AIST, Japan which was subsidy by Trans-Eurasia Information Network or TEIN – suppoting a high speed internet network for Education and research in 20 countries in Asia, and 34 countries in Europe.
