Extra Curricular Circus OZ On the 29th June the 5/6s ventured into the city for an excursion to Circus Oz where we saw acrobats backflipping off giant vertical clothes pegs, getting tangled in oversized cotton reels, balancing on a giant stack of cards and flying high in an enormous pair of aerial undies! Students were shocked, memorized and amazed by the skills displayed throughout the show. It was a spectacular performance that is sure to help us prepare for the musical next term. We learnt about the key elements of a performance - acting, music, dancing, lighting, script writing and the importance of the audience, just to name a few. From here we then explored Screen Worlds: The Story of Film, Television and Digital Culture at ACMI (Australian Centre for Moving Image). This is an exhibition that contains 220 screen-based displays, over 30 hours of moving image content and amazing artefacts and memorabilia. Here students were able to think critically about moving image, to create work and manipulate its forms and to understand the integral role it plays in our lives. RoboCup The competition aims to encourage young people to take an interest in scientific and technological fields, to cultivate their interest through robotic competitions through hands on creation. RoboCupJunior Australia helps young people to expand their social, intellectual and problem solving skills, helping them to develop into creative and independent adults. The robotics season has started very well for St Augustine's, with an excellent turnout of students and parents at the recent Robocup championship on the weekend. The enthusiasm and support from parents was amazing. Their support definitely helped to create an amazing atmosphere for our students. We had five teams - 4 Soccer and 1 dance team entered in the various competitions. Amazingly, they all made it through to the finals. Johnny and Una Rose and now Robocup champions of Melbourne. Congratulations what an amazing effort! St Augustine's teams made up 3 out of the 4 teams in the semi finals of Gen 2 (The expert league) with Hectic Bros (Ky, Noah, Lucien, Mitchell and Basil) coming runners up. Well Done! Lauren and Marko had amazing success with their dance, making it to the finals - an outstanding achievement. The juggernaut continues this weekend with the rescue competition. I was second to climb the brown wooden ladder, ‘No turning back now’ I thought to myself as my hand gripped the wood. The first zipline came up. I was trying to hook onto my pulley but needed to jump because I was too small, I tried again and again but I kept failing. After about seven goes, I got it! I was on the silver rope line, finally! I lifted my legs which helped me to swing forward and grab the harness rope. I felt like a bird soaring through the sky, “Woohoo!”

The cold air was pushing against my face, it annoyed me, so I looked to the side, trying to block the wind as I ziplined. As I flew across I saw green leafy trees, bright and dark coloured plants and a cloudy sky. I could hear the birds chirping and the people talking. I felt excited, happy and like this was the best thing ever!

From there I headed to the swinging vertical logs, I carefully grabbed the white rope holding the logs up and slowly made my way through them. Step by step, I made my way to the next platform.

I then tried to unlocked my claw in order to connect to the next zipline. My stomach dropped, both claws were locked, I didn’t know what to do. “Ah… both my claws are locked! What do I do?” trying not to panic, I begged for help.  One of the dads calmly explained to me what to do, I did what he said and used the brick again to unlock both claws.

More obstacles came up and it was so fun! I wanted to do it a second time but sadly, I couldn’t. I watched the other people do the course and after everyone finished, I took off my harness. It was such a great experience, one I will never forget.

Tree Top Challenge

I was looking forward to the tree top challenge because it looked thrilling. Then the YMCA staff told us what to do  and what to wear so we the seahorse group put on our armour and got ready.

First up was Anthony. I could tell that it was very nerve racking. I watched Anthony ZOOM across to the other side. A few kids later it was my turn. I felt my heart rumble like an earthquake. So I said to myself, “Come on Zac you got this”. I put my two hooks on the wire and got ready to ZOOM like Anthony did but even faster. I was on to the second part of TTC (short for the tree top challenge). So what I had to do was zip line to part 3 that was walking  over wooden oval shape logs. It was insane. I felt like I was going to be tree sick, next up was tree house. So I climbed up and zip lined to the end, I did not want to eat after that!

Ruby's Scare

We had just finished our activities, what a night! We were getting ready for bed, it was getting later by the minute. I could feel my eyes drifting. All warm and snuggled in my bed Ruby as quiet as a mouse was checking where the teacher was, I was shaking with nerves as I felt my heart racing, pounding like thunder in my ears, knowing we could get in trouble. I approached the door I was trying not to make a peep, it worked because you could hear a pin drop the teacher was approaching. Ruby came out and ran as fast a she could it was like a race determining who gets in trouble.

We got back to our beds it felt like we were going a thousand kilometers an hour breaking the speed of light. Two minutes later we are still waiting patiently for the teacher to turn the lights off. Meanwhile Ruby got up as quietly as possible and slowly crept up too the cold door. Ruby silently put her trembling hand on the cold handle she pushed down all eyes were focused on her, Ruby in her onsie with her trembling hand on the door.

Ruby opened the door just the slightest. Miss Tonini was there, Ruby screamed at the top of her lungs and ran back to her bed in fear. Ruby quickly hid under the covers. When she got out we were told to not go out of our cabin again until your teacher says…… there was no chance we would be doing that.

The Beach

When I got to the beach, I could feel the sand sinking and trapping me between my toes. The sea was just barely touching my cold little feet When I saw the rocks, I began to climb the orange and mouldy boulders and I could feel my feet being scratched through my shoes going into my

thick 1.1 millimetre layer of skin.

I could smell the beautiful but polluted beach. I got my steady hand and began to pick up the sand like a shovel. I then tossed the sand away and I was left with a small amount of grainy sand on my finger tips. I put my fingers to my mouth, it felt like the sand was crunchy with no taste or seasoning. I tried to spit it out but it was too late. The sand

slipped past my my teeth and onto my gums.

I could hear the crashing sounds of the waves hitting the sand.

When it was time to go back to Camp Manyung located at Mt.Eliza, me and Miss.Tonini needed a push. When we got back to camp it felt like I was going to die and Miss.Tonini felt like someone needed to pick her up. We were exhausted!

Later that night I had sand in my white, black and blue shoes.  I could feel the sand in my foot because of  the dark yellow annoying, itchy, beach smelling, dirty rubbing, small and big sand crystals in my footwear. It was so bad that I ended up dragging it into my cabin, number 4B. When I went to bed I could not sleep because the sand got in between my toes and into my sleeping bag.  What a moment to remember!

The Beach

As we got closer to the beautiful royal, blue beach, I could smell the salty air around me. I could hear the sand popping and cracking as we stepped onto the beach. It was like summer all over again - just a lot cooler. There were so many crabs with beautiful orange tones. We were stumbling on the awkwardly cut rocks. Walking through the water my feet sank into the sand and became waves. Of course I had to “fall in” and explore under the unsteady water. The waves were crashing up onto my legs and it was so relaxing I felt like the world stopped and it was all about me.
