I saw a fi lm today oh, boyThe english army had just won the warA crowd of people turned awayBut i just had to lookHaving read the bookI love to turn you on.

44The beginning was based on 2 stories

John Lennon read in the Daily Mail newspaper: Guinness heir Tara Browne dying when he smashed his lotus into a parked van, and an ar cle in the UK Daily Express in early 1967 which told of how the Blackburn Roads Surveyor had counted 4000 holes in the roads of Blackburn and commented that the volume of material needed to fi ll them in was enough to fi ll the Albert Hall. Lennon took some liber es with the Tara Browne story - he changed it so he “Blew his mind out in the car.” (thanks, Ed - Perth, Australia)

McCartney contributed the line “I’d love to turn you on.” This was a drug reference, but the BBC banned it for the line about having a smoke and go-ing into a dream, which they thought was about marijuana

A er the fi nal note, Lennon had pro-ducer George Mar n dub in a high pitched tone, which most humans can’t hear, but drives dogs crazy.

A Day In A LifeBeatles

I read the news today oh, boyAbout a lucky man who made the gradeAnd though the news was rather sadWell, i just had to laughI saw the photographHe blew his mind out in a carHe didn’t no ce that the lights had changedA crowd of people stood and staredThey’d seen his face beforeNobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords

I saw a fi lm today oh, boyThe english army had just won the warA crowd of people turned awayBut i just had to lookHaving read the bookI love to turn you on.

Woke up, got out of bedDragged a comb across my headFound my way downstairs and drank a cupAnd looking up, i no ced i was lateFound my coat and grabbed my hatMade the bus in seconds fl atFound my way upstairs and had a smokeSomebody spoke and i went into a dreamAh

I read the news today oh, boyFour thousand holes in blackburn, lancashireAnd though the holes were rather smallThey had to count them allNow they know how many holes it takes to fi ll the albert hallI’d love to turn you on

Part 23rd VerseA verse is a line of poetry

Elements

Intro - The introduc on is a unique sec on that comes at the begin-ning of the piece. It usually builds up suspense for the listener so when the downbeat drops in, it is more of an emo onal surprise.

Chorus - Chorus is used to mean the refrain of a song, which o en sharply contrasts the verse melodically, rhythmically, and harmoni-cally, and assumes a higher level of dynamics and ac vity, o en with added instrumenta on.

Bridge - In song wri ng, a bridge is an interlude that connects two parts of that song, building a harmonic connec on between those parts.

Break - A break is an instrumental or percussion sec on that forms an interlude during a song.

Outro - An outro, also called extro, is a unique ending to the song, and is equivalent to a coda or tag.
