Second Collection this Week:

Second Collection next Week: Collection for the Church in Central & Eastern Europe Valentine’s Dinner and Dance– Thank you to the committee and com-

munity for Supporting our Annual Fundraiser. Aside from the Kermes this

is our second biggest fundraiser as a church. Thank you Ash Wednesday– Ash Wednesday is on February 26, 2020. Mass will be

celebrated at 8 am in Spanish & 7 PM Biligual. A Distribution Service will

be held from 12-2 pm Stations of the Cross– Beginning Lent, we will have the Stations of the

Cross every Friday at 6:30 PM during the Lenten season. The First One will

be on February 28, 2020 hosted by the Eucharistic Ministers. Lenten Missions– Our Annual Lenten missions will be held March 9, 10,

and 11 at 6:30 Pm at St John Paul II in Spanish. The English Lenten Mission

will be held on March 14, 2020 at Our Lady of Sorrows from 8am-Noon. Lenten Confessions– Our Annual Lenten Confessions will be held from

6:30-8pm on March 12, 2020. There will be several priests to help during

this time so please make plans to attend. New Office Hours– Beginning on March 2, 2020 The Office will be Open

Tuesday-Friday from 9 AM-5 PM. The office will not be open on Mondays

to the public just for parish business.

Segunda Colecta esta Semana: Segunda Colecta de la próxima Semana: Colección para la Iglesia en Europa Central y del Este Cena y Baile de San Valentín - Gracias al comité y la comunidad por

apoyar nuestra recaudación de fondos anual. Aparte de la Kermes, este

es nuestro segundo mayor recaudador de fondos como iglesia. Gracias Miércoles de Ceniza: el Miércoles de Ceniza es el 26 de febrero de 2020. La

misa se celebrará a las 8 a.m.en español y a las 7 p.m. Biligual. Un servicio

de distribución se llevará a cabo de 12 a 2 p.m. Via Cruces: comenzando la Cuaresma, tendremos las Estaciones de la

Cruz cada viernes a las 6:30 PM durante toda la Cuaresma. El primero será

el 28 de febrero de 2020, organizado por los ministros de comunion. Misiones de Cuaresma: nuestras misiones de Cuaresma anuales se llevarán

a cabo el 9, 10 y 11 de marzo a las 6:30 p.m.en San Juan Pablo II en espa-

ñol. La misión de Cuaresma en ingles se llevará a cabo el 14 de marzo de

2020 en Nuestra Señora de los Dolores desde las 8 am hasta el mediodía. Confesiones de Cuaresma - Nuestras Confesiones de Cuaresma anuales se

llevarán a cabo de 6: 30-8pm el 12 de marzo de 2020. Habrá varios sacer-

dotes para ayudar durante este tiempo, así que haga planes para asistir. Nueva horas de Oficina- A partir del 2 de marzo de 2020, la oficina estará

abierta de martes a viernes de 9 am-5pm. La oficina no estará abierta los

SEXTO DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO = SIXTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Primero reconciliarse con su hermano y luego venga y ofrezca su regalo.….….….….….….….….….….….….….…... de Cultura Católica En este Sermón del Monte, tenemos varios dichos de Cristo, en realidad hablados en diferentes ocasiones. Mateo, en su manera sistemática, ha reunido estos

dichos en un discurso continuo aquí. Esto facilita a sus lectores, que eran conversos judíos, comprender el nuevo orden de salvación inaugurado por Cristo. Co-

nocían los diez mandamientos, pero los conocían como sus rabinos les habían enseñado. Estos rabinos, en su mayor parte fariseos, ponen todo el énfasis en la

letra de la ley y en su observancia externa. La declaración inicial de Cristo, que la actitud de sus seguidores hacia los mandamientos (y otros preceptos de la ley)

debe ser diferente y superior a la de los escribas y fariseos, indica claramente cómo el cristianismo debe diferir del judaísmo y reemplazarlo. Cristo no está abo-

liendo los diez mandamientos, pero está exigiendo a sus seguidores un cumplimiento más perfecto y más sincero de ellos. Todo el valor moral de cualquier obser-

vancia legal (incluida la ley mosaica) proviene de la disposición interior del que observa o guarda la ley. Ningún hombre sirve ni honra a Dios por ningún acto

exterior, ya sea tan arduo o continuo, a menos que estos actos procedan de una intención y una voluntad de honrar y agradar a Dios. Esta es la carta, la consti-

tución, de la nueva ley, el cristianismo. La vieja ley no se abolió, sino que se profundizó y se le dio una nueva vida. Evitar el asesinato, por lo tanto, no es suficien-

te; El verdadero cristiano debe eliminar cualquier inclinación al asesinato mediante la construcción de un verdadero amor fraternal por todos los hombres en su

corazón. No solo no debemos herir a nuestro prójimo o prójimo en su persona o en su carácter, sino que debemos estar siempre listos para ayudarlo y evitar lesio-

presa esta verdad en las palabras: si estás ofreciendo tu regalo en el altar, y recuerda que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti, deja tu regalo allí. . . primero reconci-

liarse con su hermano y luego venga y ofrezca su regalo.

First be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer your gift.……….……….……….……….…...from Catholic Cuture In this Sermon on the Mount, we have various sayings of Christ, actually spoken on different occasions. Matthew, in his systematic manner, has gathered these

sayings into one continuous discourse here. This makes it easier for his readers, who were Jewish converts, to grasp the new order of salvation as inaugurated by

Christ. They knew the ten commandments, but they knew them as their rabbis had taught them. These rabbis, for the most part Pharisees, put all the stress on the

letter of the law and on its external observance. Christ's opening statement, that the attitude of his followers towards the commandments (and other precepts of

the law) must be different, and superior to that of the scribes and Pharisees, clearly indicates how Christianity must differ from, and supersede, Judaism. Christ is

not abolishing the ten commandments, but he is demanding of his followers a more perfect, a more sincere, fulfillment of them. The whole moral value of any

legal observance (the Mosaic law included), comes from the interior disposition of him who observes or keeps the law. No man serves or honors God by any exte-

rior acts, be they ever so arduous or continuous, unless these acts proceed from an intention and a will to honor and please God. This is the charter, the constitu-

tion, of the new law, Christianity. The old law is not abolished, but deepened and given a new life. Avoiding murder therefore is not enough; the true Christian

must remove any inclination to murder by building up true, brotherly love for all men in his heart. We must not only not injure our neighbor or fellowman in his per-

son, or in his character, but we must be ever ready to help him and prevent injury to him, whenever and wherever we can. We must not only not commit adultery,

but must also develop a Christian respect and esteem for purity, the virtue which will preserve us not only from adultery but even from thoughts of adultery, or any

other abuse of our sexual gifts given us by God for his sublime purpose. We must be truthful always, and men of our word. This virtue is not only necessary for man's

salvation, but is the basis of rational intercourse between men in civilized society. While our civil courts still deem it necessary to impose oaths on contestants and

witnesses (since they have, unfortunately, to take account of the liars and deceivers who still are a menace to society), the truthful man need not be afraid of

insulting or dishonoring God by calling him as his guarantor, if asked to do so. True and loyal service of God therefore begins in the heart and has its value from this

interior disposition. Keeping the ten commandments is our way of proving to God that we are grateful, obedient and loyal to him who gave us all we have and

who has promised us future gifts infinitely greater still. And just as our love for God is proved by our true love for our neighbor, so the last seven of the com-

mandments impose on us obligations regarding our neighbor. It is only by fulfilling these seven that we can fulfill the first three which govern our relations with God.

This truth is expressed by our Lord in the words: It you are offering your gift at the altar, and remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift

there . . . first be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer your gift.
