FROSINONE

Frùsino (questo il nome latino) era abitata anticamente dal popolo dei Volsci. Frosinone fu più volte distrutta durante le invasioni barbariche, rimanendo sempre dipendente dalla Roma papalina,con una funzione principalmente agricola e militare. La città subì numerose calamità, come un terremoto nel 1350, e le devastazioni da parte dei Lanzichenecchi, che portarono il contagio della peste, con al seguito truppe francesi e fiorentine, riguardo al Sacco di Roma. L’ormai scomparsa rocca, distrutta in quel frangente, venne ricostruita e attraversò i secoli restando oggi solo in rare stampe e alcune leggende stropicciate. Secondo alcune fonti il portale principale sarebbe stato disegnato da Michelangelo Buonarroti.Nuove distruzioni ci furono con l'occupazione degli spagnoli in guerra contro Paolo IV nel 1556 e ciò spiega maggiormente quanto la rocca di Frosinone sia stata nei secoli strategicamente rilevante per il controllo di tutta la valle del Sacco e per la difesa di Roma. Di rilievo lo scontro con i garibaldini a Monte San Giovanni Campano nella leggendaria Casina Valentini. Nel Museo nazionale di Mentana sono conservati i cimeli della "Vendita“ Carbonara "Nicola Ricciotti" patriota mazziniano, amico intimo di Garibaldi, che colpito da cotanto eroe morto fucilato con i fratelli Bandiera, impose al proprio figlio il nome di Ricciotti Garibaldi.

FIUGGI:

Fiuggi è composta da due diversi centri abitati avvolti nel verde dei molti boschi di castagno tipici della zona: Fiuggi Città (m747 s.l.m.) che è il nucleo d’insediamento più antico, e il più moderno e Fiuggi Fonte (m 621 s.l.m.), inserito nella zona termale. Questo borgo medioevale fino al 1911 si chiamò’ Anticoli di Campagna. Il suo territorio sembra fosse abitato dai popoli pelasgi, perché nel vicino lago di Canterno, durante i recenti scavi di un pozzo artesiano, sono stati rinvenuti frammenti di legno ritenuti parte di palafitte d’origine pelasgica. Secondo alcuni studiosi, nel V-IV sec: a.C. Anticoli venne abitata dagli Ernici.Nel 1088-1089 il papa Urbano II confermava al vescovo Pietro di Anagni il privilegio perenne su Anticoli. Alla fine del XIII secolo resta ancora proprietà della Santa Sede mentre la Valle Anticolana diventa feudo della famiglia Cajetani. Nel secolo XVIII Anticoli divenne comune indipendente. La proposta di cambiare il nome di Anticoli di Campagna in quello di Fiuggi fu formulata del consigliere comunale Pietro Martini e sostenuta da un altro consigliere: Enrico Ludovici. Nel 1911, essendo stata approvata la richiesta, fu autorizzato il cambiamento di nome. “Frugi" fin dall’antichità stava ad indicare la località ove sgorga l’acqua; località ricca di fiorente vegetazione di castagni nel cui sottobosco crescono rigogliose felci che nel gergo e nella nomenclatura dialettale vengono denominate "feuci" o "frugi".

SERRONE:

L'origine del nome SERRONE è fatto risalire all'antico "serroni", che evoca i dorsi rocciosi e accidentati dell'Appennino centrale e che caratterizzano i pendii e le falde del Monte Scalambra su cui, a metà costa, sorse in epoche oscure il nucleo originario del paese.Nell'antichità preromana, il territorio fu abitato dagli Ernici, che vi stabilirono un "oppido" (villaggio fortificato) in località "Lesca", certamente a difesa della città sacra di Anagni.Nel X secolo il territorio era sotto la giurisdizione dei Benedettini di Subiaco, che introdussero il culto di S. Michele Arcangelo, con una chiesetta a lui dedicata, posta alla sommità del M. Scalambra. Il più antico documento che testimonia l'esistenza del paese è del 1085 ed è contenuto nel REGESTO SUBLACENSE. Il paese, insieme con Piglio e Paliano venne incluso nel distretto di Tivoli, compreso nella comarca di Roma.Pur toccato dai moti garibaldini del 1849 (Garibaldi a Piglio) e del 1867 (tentativi di liberare i prigionieri politici dal carcere di Paliano), il paese visse tranquillo fino all'unificazione del 1870 che portò Serrone a far parte del Mandamento di Paliano, circondario di Frosinone, provincia di Roma. Nel 1927 fu definitivamente incluso nella neocostituitaprovincia di Frosinone.

PIGLIO:

Piglio è un piccolo paese sito nell’area nord della provincia di Frosinone. Ha una estensione di circa 35,1 Kmq. E' un paese le cui origini risalgono ancora prima del II secolo a.C. ed è situato a 621 mt. sul livello del mare. Conserva un aspetto medioevale, con i resti del grande Castello Colonna. Una curiosa leggenda sull'origine del suo nome narra che, Quinto Fabio Massimo (il Temporeggiatore), passando un giorno per queste terre e colpito da un forte vento, perdette il proprio elmo (in latino “Pileum”) e chiese ad una suo soldato di raccoglierlo. Altri, invece, sostengono che il suo nome derivi da "pila", pilastro, riferito al Castello per il punto strategico in cui sorgeva a difesa della Valle. Piglio appare per la priva volta nella storia con la Bolla di Urbano II, nel 1088, con il nome di Castrum Pilleum, ma molte vestigia di epoca romana si trovano sul suo territorio; le più note sono quelle della Villa di Mecenate in località "Fattora". Nel medioevale Centro Storico, sviluppato secondo una particolare pianta a ferro di cavallo, sono da ammirare: la Chiesa di S. Rocco, con affreschi della Scuola Giottesca; il Convento di S.Lorenzo, costruito nel XII secolo. Nel suo interno si trova la grotta del Beato Andrea Conti, ispiratore del I Giubileo del 1300. Con l'unita' d'Italia, Piglio si trovò a far parte del Mandamento di Paliano, Circondario di Frosinone, Provincia di Roma, Collegio Politico di Anagni; tale assetto amministrativo rimase in vigore fino al 1927, quando la Provincia Laziale fu suddivisa nelle Province di: Roma, Viterbo, Rieti e Frosinone. La prima guerra mondiale (1915-1918) lasciò un segno indelebile sulla popolazione di Piglio, infatti numerosi furono i caduti pigliesi, per i quali è stata eretta, a ricordo, una lapide sotto l'arco del Castello Basso di Piglio. Il Municipio venne eretto nel 1926 e 1927 Piglio passò dalla Provincia di Roma a quella di Frosinone.

Piglio is a small village situated in the northern province of Frosinone.
