WRITING A RECOUNT SAMPLE ESSAY (T/book page 138) It was the rainy season when I visited my grandmother in December last year. It started raining the day I arrived and it continued to rain for a week. The air was cool and we stayed indoors all the time. That Sunday, a few hours after we had gone to bed, we suddenly heard a loud rumbling noise. My cousins and I ran out into the rain to see what had happened. We were shocked. Part of the hill behind our house had been washed away by the rain. It was a landslide. Some of the houses were partially buried undersoil and mud. People were running in all directions. My aunt and uncle looked shocked. They looked around to see if everyone was safe. My uncle used his mobile phone and called for help. Rescue workers could not reach us immediately because the roads were blocked. It was then that I heard my aunt scream. My grandmother was still trapped in the house! We started to remove the rocks that had fallen on the back of the house. Neighbours joined in the search. After what seemed like hours, a cry of excitement rang out. My grandmother was found alive. We breathed a sigh of relief and thanked God as we hugged her. This was the first time I had witnessed a landslide and I will never forget it.
