Facebook is an online social networking service. It was founded in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students.

The website's membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University. It gradually added support for students at various other universities before opening to high school students, and eventually to anyone aged 13 and over. Facebook now allows any users who declare themselves to be at least 13 years old to become registered users of the site.

As of January 2014, Facebook has over one billion active users

Next Timeline - Tagging

Notification Settings – Mainly Tagging…

Do: Create an on-line presence. This can help show case your talents and skills as well as allow you to easily connect with people.

Do: Pay attention to comment & posting etiquettes. Do you really want to see a toilet in the background of a pucker lipped person? Old rule applies no matter the situation - think twice post once.

Do: Post testimonials. Businesses are working hard to provide what their customers want – if you see a great page let them know.

Do: Help promote others.. Networking works both ways – the more you are willing to help someone else the more they will likely reach out to help you in return.

Do post compelling messages – post great pictures – share your timeline with great content.

Do post regular messages of interest for your family and friends.

Do respond to questions, concerns, and compliments on your social media page.

Do post regularly about news, trips, and fun posts about your staff.

Don’t: Connect with everyone. Quality is more important than quantity. When making a connection with someone other than family or friends –research and ask yourself why?

Don’t: Post things you would not want to get out – personal information best left for an in person conversation

Don’t spam… If you have a business do not post your merchandise directly on others personal or professional timelines. (unless authorized & then only in moderation with returned kindness)

Don’t post too much. Don’t overload your followers to the point they ignore you. Remember quality over quantity

Don’t just post for the “heck of it.” this is not Twitter telling us what you had for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily is not what people are following you to read

Don’t: Link a personal FB page with business if you are going to post the morning after pictures – or risky pictures that will cause concern for family, friends or bosses

Don’t: Loose a good friend or risk getting blocked or unfriended. If your having an off day call 1-800-BFF

TIME MANAGEMENT

Icon – used to help people find you “Smith”?

Banner – can tell a story, or spotlight things that matter to you! 851 pixels wide 315 wide preferably less than 100 kilobytes & png file’

About – Work history, education, places lived, relationships, about you, favorite quotes, musical likes, books, sports, photos…

How to create a great status update!

SO MANY OPTIONS!

Your photos and albums that you post – who, what, where, when, why?

You can also add special privacy settings to specific albums!

FILES

Can only be uploaded to groups. To post files or share Dropbox files—like presentations, schedules, and documents—to a group, click the AddFile icon and choose a file from your computer or Dropbox account.

VIDEOS

Can be uploaded to group, business and personal timelines.

Almost all types of video files are supported, but we recommend using the MP4 format.

LINK POST PICTURE POST

A Link post you are connecting to another page on the web, an event, social media etc..

You can also use the status area to ‘Tag’ another person or place. Depending on if you are using FB as a person or page.

A picture post is highly valued by FB. Especially a clean picture post versus a shared picture.

Tag the status or the picture (Two options)

YOU CAN FOLLOW:

PEOPLE

PAGES

HOBBIES

PLACES

PICTURES PERMISSIONS

A tag is a special kind of link. When you tag someone, you create a link to their timeline. The post you tag the person in may also be added to that person’s timeline. For example, you can tag a photo to show who’s in the photo or post a status update and say who you’re with. If you tag a friend in your status update, anyone who sees that update can click on your friend’s name and go to their timeline. Your status update may also show up on that friend’s timeline.

You can remove a tag

You can tag up to 50 people or pages on a photo

You can review tags before allowing them on your timeline
