Facing the Music Creating this painting helped a fourteen year old girl with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder express feelings of disconnection and disembodiment. She completed numerous paintings, drawings, and collages throughout her stays at Bellevue Hospital Center. She is now a college student receiving outpatient care, and continues to use art-making as a productive outlet for her complex emotions.

Landscape was painted by a nineteen year old who immigrated to the United States. While in the hospital, art therapy helped her express her feelings and cope with longing for her home country. She was quiet and withdrawn before she started to paint, but she lit up with visible pride when she observed her final creation. She then opened up and talked about her country, her culture and memories of her childhood.
