Do the Right Thing I love a well-dressed man. If you want to get my attention fellas, get it right! I am a little picky and a stickler for the details. I just know how I want to see my man dressed for an occassion. He needs to put some effort into it and it should look as if he did. If not, he will be changing.

EDITOR’S LETTER

Page 5: Facon Magazine - Winter 2012

Janice Susan WallaceEditor-in-Chief@stylish_in_dc

That’s not to say that he has to wear what I want him to wear. I am not that overbearing girlfriend who is insistent on having her way. No, you just need to have your own style, your own swagger and totally own it. That will surely stop me in my tracks. Every time. Every. Single. Time. There is nothing sexier. So when I heard that Tari Boutique was now consigning menswear, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to see what I wanted my man to be wearing. A man needs options. Tari had plenty of Zegna, Brooks Brothers, Etro, Armani, and the like. A treasure trove of designers who know how to dress a man. I was very pleased. Kinda giddy actually. The prices were reasonable but the selection was primarily for the regular guy. If you are tall, your options are limited. Nevertheless, it is still worth your while. So guys, get to shopping.

With the presidential inauguration on the horizon, I also wanted to present the social set with best options for looking fabulous while gala-hopping. Those of you with your inaugural party calendar filled to the brim will find fabulous op-tions from a host of superb emerging de-signers and indie boutiques from around the globe. Congratulations to President Obama on his second term. We are watching. The world is watching. Do the right thing. As always, if you know an amazing designer or would like to send me a note, just email me at: [email protected]. Or follow the magazine on Twitter, @faconmagazine and send us a tweet. Enjoy.

BEAUTY REPORT

It’s the holidays! Aside from fi guring out what gifts you need to buy it’s also time to prepare for all of the holiday festivities. Once you have your cocktail dress and 6 inch heels picked out, what about makeup? Th is holiday is all about over glamming and glitter! If you are afraid to show out and make a statement, you may want to stay away from all the parties and dinners you were invited to because it’s all about over doing it. Remember the more glam the better! Th e trends this holiday are certainly ones that anyone can accomplish. But it will certainly take a lot of confi dence! Don’t be afraid to step outside of your box and try something that you may have not normally tried. Th is could be the fi rst step to a new you in a new year! I wanted to focus on brands that most of you know, or may not know, but can easily go to the store and try and buy. Try and buy is the best theory when buying something new. But it’s even better when you can sit down with a consultant and get educated about your product so that you learn how to create the best look for you.

I hope that you all have a great holiday fi lled with beautiful faces, fun times, and great memories.

With love and beauty,

Dominica

BEAUTY ADVICEPICKING THE PERFECT LIPSTICK

Shopping for makeup is not the easiest thing to do however it is not the hardest! Always pay close attention to your undertones! Anyone can wear any color it’s just about fi nding the right tone that compliments your complexion.

If you are unsure of what your undertones may be, pay close attention to your neck, chest and inner arm areas. Your undertones are either red/pink or yellow/golden. Looking at the veins in your arms is a great place to start as well.

Red lipstick is the perfect way to make noise without saying a word. Red lipsticks usually come in two undertones either blue or orange. Reds that are blue based tend to be a little darker in color while orange is a bit brighter. Blue based lipsticks work best with cool undertones and orange base works best with warm undertones.

BEST TO BUY:

Spend it: Save it: MAC “Ruby Woo” L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge “Ravishing Red” NARS “Fire Down Below” Revlon Matte Lipstick “Really Red” SmashBox “Infared Matte” Maybelline “Red Revival”

*Tip* Use liner to perfect your red lip. While you can use a red liner you can also use brown.

HOW TO CREATE A SMOKEY EYE

Eyes are going smoky and intense or beyond glittery. Smoky eye is for the girl who is very intense and fl irty while the girl who is more fun and outgoing will opt for eyes that are fi lled with sparkle. :

1. Black liner- You will get the best smoky eye with a liner that is made of Kohl. Kohl liners go on ultra-smooth, which make it easier to smudge out, and they are the blackest of the black.

Spend it: Urban Decay “Perversion” $19 Save it: Sephora “Keep Black” $9

2. Matte shadow- Matte shadows are fl at colors but pack on a lot of impact on the eye. Matte shadows are also easier to blend.

Spend it: MAC “carbon” $15 Save it: NYX “Black” $4

3. Outrageous lashes- You can decide to use lashes or you can use great mascara. Never be afraid to layer mascara you will fi nd by using more than one mascara that cater to certain things you will get less clumps. *tip* If your lashes feel stiff or hard while wearing mascara you need to stop using it be-cause your lashes are not being conditioned, they could break off .

Spend it: Laura Mercier - Faux Lash $24 Save it: Maybelline Colossal Volume $8

FINDING THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF COVERAGE

What about the perfect coverage? Today picking out coverage is not as simple as liquid or powder. We have creams, tinted moisturizers and BB creams, which all serve the same purpose with a diff erent delivery.

Th is season tinted moisturizer and BB creams are the way to go! Tinted moisturizers are not to take place of your moisturizer. Instead it adds hydration without full-on coverage. I recommend tinted moisturizers for the woman who wants to wear something on her face but does not want to look made up, but simply fi nished.

BEAUTY ADVICE

BB creams, or Beauty Balms, is something that is fairly new to the industry. BB cream is a step up from tinted moisturizer but a step below foundation. For the woman who wants coverage, but not too heavy, this is the way for her to go. BB cream can be used alone or as primer. Th e coverage is more medium than sheer but it has a natural skin fi nish.

*Tip* If you have imperfections that you want to cover but don’t want to use a full coverage foundation, use a BB cream or tinted moisturizer all over and a full coverage concealer for certain areas of the face.
