A brief history of the Teaching Research Institute (TRI)...• Established in the early 1960’s as a Research & Development arm of OUS

• The Institute’s foundation was in educational research and instructional technology development...led to the genesis of Sesame Street

• Ongoing involvement in connecting teaching to learning, school improvement and teacher preparation, as well as educational research, development, and evaluation

• With the passage of EHA in 1975, TRI’s focus switched to special education

• This led to national prominence…initially in early childhood and services to students with deaf-blindness, and now also those with traumatic brain injuries

• In 1989 TRI was transferred from OUS to Western Oregon University under the Provost

• In August 2007 Director appointed to the President’s Staff
