THEY ARE HIGHLY FAVORED Santa appeared out of nowhere!
John and I were shocked to see the
camera crew as we pulled up to the Scott
Mitchell House for women and children
one evening. We have a homeless
family that was separated with seven
children who now reside with us. They
have been followed by a talk show from
Germany for the past two years. Two of
the children were reunited that
night with their mother for the
first time since they became
homeless. It was a moment to
behold. We also shared how
Fairhaven came to be. Then, on
another day, some wonderful
fans came to visit including the
Palau family and their friends,
the Mitchells and the Froode’s.
They made Christmas cookies
with all the kids and passed out
stockings stuffed with gifts and
goodies of great joy. On
another day more fans came
bearing gifts to put under the tree. They
stayed long enough to take pictures and
to tell the kids the story of Jesus. The
wrappers were flying, faces were
smiling, and mothers felt the hope come
into their hearts once again that all will
be well. To add to this, John and I were
given a generous gift by a wonderful
Christian couple in our son’s small
group from Georgia, so we were able to
present the mothers with a good working
van for their house . On another day
Santa showed up with several huge bags
of very nice gifts for every child. Oh
how their little faces lit up as their very
own name was called out and given that
special gift from Santa himself. Wow!
No eye has seen, no ear heard what God
has laid up for those who he loves. Truly
peace on earth and good will towards
men came and visited The Scott
Mitchell House this season. We want to
give a special thanks to all of you who
made this season such a wonderful
blessing.

SEASONS WE CAN’T ESCAPE Candace Liebertz
There is a season and a time for
everything in our lives, says the author
of Ecc 3:1-8.There is a time to be born
and to die, to kill, to heal, to weep, to
laugh, to rend, to sew, to keep silent, to
speak, to love, and to hate, to say just a
few. I have come to understand that
while I am on this earth my body, soul,
and spirit are not designed to exist in a
good, healthy, strong, and happy
condition without a serious relationship
with Jesus Christ. God’s word is sown in
us in our weakness. It then raises us up
in power. While in my younger years I
found that when I was worried about
something I could ask God to help me
and every time I would pick up his bible
he would talk to me. Oh how it would
bring such joy that he heard me and that
he thought enough of me to answer me.
Everything he ever told me in those
times I cherished in my heart. I never
forgot any of it. His promises were
always in the forefront of my thoughts
and deeply embedded in my heart, so
much so that nothing could separate me
from his love. No weakness, no
addiction, no other relationship, and
certainly not the enemy that pointed the
finger could separate me from Christ. I
never trusted in my strength because
when I was yet without strength, he died
for me. I needed a savior. God has put
the day of adversity up against the day
of prosperity so that we put nothing
before him. Blessed is he whose mind is
fixed on God for God will keep him in
perfect peace. I have learned how to be
content in many situations in my life,
which makes me a pleasant and a safe
person to be around. I can say that today
thanks to Jesus Christ.
WE CALL HIM OUR GIFT FROM GODShannon Scoggins
About two years ago my life was
turned upside down by my addiction.
I found myself involved with the
courts and DHS. I was lost, had
nowhere to turn, no home to go to, no
job, and I was running from the law.
I found myself in jail during the
death of my son, Klayton Joe. I
remember it like it was yesterday
when the chaplain brought me the
news about my son. What a mess I
was. Over the next week or so, before
my release, I had several meetings
with the chaplain. I had two
directions to choose from upon my
release. I could go back out and use
or get right with God and change my
life. Not long after my release I was
given the number to Fairhaven
Recovery Homes and within several
hours I was safe and had a place to
call home. Fairhaven gave me the
chance I needed to succeed, and
succeed I did. I completed all my
court requirements and probation
obligations. I excelled in my new
living environment, becoming part of
the family at Fairhaven. John and
Candace Liebertz, who I choose to
call Mom and Dad, and other
Fairhaven mentors saw things in me
that I had never seen before. Being in
Gods loving arms in these homes has
allowed me the success I have today.
Now I am working with men in
recovery as the regional mentor of
the Fairhaven men’s homes and I
personally mentor Fairhaven Six in
Multnomah County.

FAIRHAVEN’S ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
Please join us April 21, 2012 for our annual fundraiser. Keep this in your prayers. Also, anyone
who would like to share ideas or volunteer, please e-mail or call us. Thank you!
FORSAKE NOT YOUR FATHER’S FRIENDHEARTS WERE TOUCHED
The last time I saw her I was just
out of diapers. She was a good friend
of my mother’s. I went to see Vivian;
she is 91 and sharp as a tack. My
mother has been gone for nineteen
years, but during that visit I could
sense and feel that part of my mother
was still living on in Vivian’s heart.
After we left, I received a call from
Lisa, Vivian’s daughter. She said she
and her small group wanted to do
something for the women at our
women’s house for Christmas, and
did they ever. We invited Lisa and
her small group from the City Bible
Church over. Our ladies had no idea
what we were up to. During the
course of munching on snacks,
gaining new friends and toasting with
bubbly juice, the ladies were
surprised with special gifts. That
night I witnessed the Christ- like love
that Vivian had all those years for my
mother shining through on the faces
of those women. The joy and smiles
of the little girl inside all of them
came out. Thank you Vivian, Lisa,
and the small group that came and
shared the love that we all so deeply
long for. God bless you.
NEW HORIZONS AND GROWTHTerry Jenkins
The new year brought a new home
to the Fairhaven family. Effective
January 1st we opened the doors to
Fairhaven House Eight located in
Aloha. This is another men’s home
and will be led by our newest mentor,
Mr. Todd Andrews. Both are
welcome additions to our ministry
and continued mission. This newest
home is a beautiful two story, newer
home on a quiet cul-de-sac in a nice
family neighborhood. It’s a great new
environment for recovery and
spiritual growth. We believe Todd
will be an excellent example and
leader for those newest members that
are quickly filling this home. He is
rooted in recovery, has a tender heart,
and will do great things for those in
need We thank God for these newest
blessings He has bestowed upon
us…a new home to help more
people, new leaders to guide them,
and His love to protect them!! God
continues to raise us up in His
strength.
Executive Director’s
Corner:
Revelation 21:5
Behold I make all things new!!
On behalf of my wife and myself,
as the new year is upon us, we
would just like to encourage
everyone to stand strong in the
grace of God knowing that if God
be for you than who can be
against you? Know that all things
work together for the good for
those who are in Christ Jesus. We
are excited to see what God has
in store for all of us this year.
We look forward to the growth
of our relationships with one
another, the new ones to come,
and of course the growth of
ourselves as we continue in our
work here at Fairhaven. This truly
has been the most exciting time
in our lives. We love the days we
are working here at Fairhaven,
and the people we have come to
know and love. Thank you all for
your partnership with us and we
look forward to the years to
come. John Liebertz
