The time seemed to fly by here at the church; maybe it was because of the construction, or maybe it just seemed to go by quickly. Time is something that can only go the same speed; 24 hours in a day is always 24 hours in a day- it is our perceptions that make it go fast or slow. It has been good, over this summer, to be able to take some time and reflect where we have come from with the creation of Faith United Presbyterian Church; to look at what brought us to this time, so that we can plan for moving forward. It was good to have a period of time to renew and reflect, but now it is time for look toward the future, because God meets us where we are, but never leaves us as we were. We have had a desire, for several years now, to hold a mid-week activity for children, youth, and adults, combining fellowship and education and worship. After more conversation, and seeing some of the suggestions on the charts that have been up in the Fellowship Room from our May 1 gathering, a group of people have begun meeting and planning to put this activity into motion. The session has given the ok, and we will begin WFAM on Wednesday, September 14 th , beginning at 5:30. This activity is open to all the children, the youth, and adults. We will have supper from 5:30 to 6:00 in the Dining Room, with children and adults sitting together for supper; a simple meal served family style. Then, the children will go on to children’s choir rehearsal, another suggestion on the lists, and the mid-high youth will go and learn how to play the bells. At this same time, the adults will go and participate in a Bible Study with myself, looking at the text that I will preach from on the following Sunday. After this, the children will go to a time of education, learning more about the Scripture reading that was preached on from the previous Sunday, engaging the text through many means; sight, sound, feel, etc. The mid-high youth will go on to confirmation class with me, and the adults will engage one another in discussions about what the passage they studied was all about. We will all gather back together at 7 pm for a closing time of worship. We are asking for volunteers to help and you can visit with the Eric Butler, Larisa Chmielewski, Sherry Koehler, Ellen Osborn, Peggy Reid, Laura Stokes, or Pastor Dave, if you would like to help with this activity. We are encouraging all of the congregation to look at the lists of suggestions that are on the windows and walls of the Fellowship Room; there are YOUR IDEAS on what the church can be doing. I am asking each of us to find something on those lists that you are passionate about, and let us know how you can get involved in making this a part of the ministry and outreach of Faith United Presbyterian Church. The way for this church to move forward and grow in faith, as well as size, is if we all find that place where our gifts and skill and the needs of the church intersect. There is a place for all of us. Thank you. Dave Faith UP September 2016

Thank you to all those who came to VBS and donated all their coins for Heifer International. Because of everyone's generosity at VBS and on the following Sunday, we raised $266.21. With this money we were able to purchase a pig, a sheep and a flock of chicks to be sent to families around the world. Here is a little information for you about the wonderful organization that Heifer International is. Heifer International's mission is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth. Dan West was a farmer from the American Midwest and member of the Church of the Brethren who went to the front lines of the Spanish Civil War as an aid worker. His mission was to provide relief, but he soon discovered the meager single cup of milk rationed to the weary refugees once a day was not enough. And then he had a thought: What if they had not a cup, but a cow? That "teach a man to fish" philosophy is what drove West to found Heifer International. And now, nearly 70 years later, that philosophy still inspires our work to end world hunger and poverty throughout the world once and for all.

THANK YOU to all members of Faith United Presbyterian for the prayers cards and phone calls during my two recent operations. A special thank you to the Shepherd of our Flock, Pastor Dave. All of the prayers have definitely helped. My recovery is expected to take several months and I know I will continue to be in your prayers. God bless all of you. Gary Wood
