CLIENT STORY




SITUATION

In 2004, Spirax wanted to identify a cost savings strategy aimed at production components and consumables. MAJOR CHALLENGES:

• Demand/forecasting levels were inconsistent. As a result:

• The company struggled with high inventory levels (several months worth+) and the cost associated with this mode of operation.

• The company experienced downtime during significant production fluctuations.

• The percentage of time (labor hours) purchasing, receiving, stocking and managing the internal distribution/movement of these parts was disproportionate to the total spend on these parts.




ANALYSIS

• Spirax identified 600+ part numbers supplied by 65 vendors with whom purchases were <$75K per year.

• With Falcon’s help, Spirax analyzed how these items were purchased, received and stocked as well as the current production dollars tied up with in-stock inventory.

Objectives

Implement a program to consolidate as many vendors as possible

Reduce the financial investment in inventory

Reduce incidents of stock-outs affecting production

Reduce movement of products in the plant and have more “point-of-use” items




2 YEAR RESULTS WITH FALCON

• Consolidation of 65 vendors to 1 partner/supplier
