We strongly recommend that you register this product as quickly as possible to ensurethat the warranty program is validated. Please complete your respective countries enclo-sed registration card or for the USA register online at www.krupsusa.com.

Enclosed in this box is the Krups VIP Exclusive Service Kit. Within this kit, we have included everything you need to get started. Each kit contains 1 packet of descaling powder, 2 cleaning tablets, water hardness testing strip, a full color instruction manual, and 1 Claris water filter.

There are a variety of coffee and espresso beans available in the market today. Some beans have a very dry roast while others can be quite oily. Oily beans may clumptogether, which could disrupt the flow of coffee into the grinder. The lack of a continuousflow of beans into the grinder can cause a weak or even no coffee at all. To ensure optimalresults when using oily beans, simply stir the beans in the coffee hopper just prior to usingyour machine. If you freeze your beans (we do not recommend this type of storage, but rather keepingyour beans in an airtight container in a cool dark place), please ensure you allow at least 4hours for them to thaw before adding to the coffee bean hopper. Allowing frozen beans toproperly thaw will prevent unnecessary moisture from entering into the grinder. Also, neveruse flavoured or other sugar-coated beans as they will stick to the burrs and clog yourmachine.

• CappuccinoFor a cappuccino, the ideal proportions are as follows: 1/3 steamed milk, 1/3 espresso, 1/3 milk froth.

• Caffe LatteTo make coffee with milk, also often called Latte Macchiato, the proportions are as follows: 3/5 steamed milk, 1/5 espresso, 1/5 milk froth.

For these milk-based preparations, it is best to use cold 1 or 2% milkmilk straight from the refrigerator (ideally between 42.8° F/6° C and 46.4° F/10° C).

By filtering the water with thethe Claris - Aqua Filter Systemcartridge, you can reduce:carbonate hardness up to75%,chlorine up to 85%,lead up to 90%, copper up to 95%, aluminium up to 67%.*

To optimize the taste of your coffee and the lifetime of your machine, we recommend you to use the Claris - Aqua FilterSystem cartridge enclosed with this machine. The filter system consists of an anti-scale substance and active carbon whichreduces the chlorine, impurities, lead, copper and pesticides that may be present in the water. The minerals and trace ele-ments in the water, however, are preserved.

7

Before using the machine for the first time or if you have noted a change in water hardness, it is advisable to adapt themachine to the water hardness. To determine the water hardness, use the measuring stick delivered with your machine or getin contact with your water authority.

Before turning on your Espresseria for the first time after you have set it up, please place a container under the coffee outletsand the steam nozzle. When you turn the machine on, it will automatically commence an initial rinsing cycle from the coffeeoutlets and the steam nozzle.

BEFORE FIRST USE

After 1 minute the hardness measurement will appear. This is the number you will be asked to program into the machine.

To install the water filter, simply screw it into thebottom of the water tankusing the spanner provi-ded.

The Claris cartridge needs to be replaced approximately every 50 litres of water or a minimum every twomonths.

PREPARING ESPRESSO AND PRESSURE BREWED COFFEE

YOUR MACHINE IS DESIGNED TO MAKE COFFEE AND ESPRESSO FROM COFFEE BEANS ONLY.DO NOT USE OILY OR SUGAR COATED ESPRESSO / COFFEE BEANS. When you first make coffee with the machine, or after a prolonged period of non-use, or a cleaningor descaling procedure, a little steam and hot water will come out of the steam nozzle (priming).

Please note : The ground coffee is first moistened with a little hot water after the grinding stage. This is called “pre-brewing” and it optimizes the brewing process by ensuring that the grounds are evenly wet. A few moments later, the full brewing cycle begins. To get a stronger long coffee, we recommend to divideby 2 the volume you wish and make run 2 cycles, e.g. 2 times 70 ml/2.4 oz to get a 140 ml/4 oz coffee.

You can use your machine to make 2 cups of coffee or espresso by cycling the machine twice. Remember not to remove thecups after the first cycle. You have now prepared your machine. The light will stay on.

If you first press the key and then the (or vice versa), the second action will not be taken into account.

Splashing or scalding may occur if the coffee outlets are set too high in relation to the size of the cups.

DO NOT TAKE OFF THE WATER TANK BEFORE THE END OF THE CYCLE (i.e. 15 sec. after coffee stops flowing).

The machine will automatically sequence through two complete

cycles.

To stop coffee flowing into the cup, you can either again press one of the or keys or turn the rotating knobto reduce volume.

TWO CUP FUNCTION

When the machine is plugged in, an inintializing cycle is processed. Press the “On/Off” button. The light will flash while themachine heats up. When the light goes solid, your machine is ready.

You can change the volumeof water at any time usingthe rotating knob.

Put two cups under the coffee outlets. You can lower or raise thecoffee outlets to suit thesize of your cups.

When your machine is ready, the“On/Off” light will stay on.Put a cup under the coffee outlets. You can lower or raise the coffee outlets to suit the size of your cups.

With a simple touch of a button, you can prepare 4 types of beverages: espresso, a strong espresso, coffee and long coffee.

Amount of water

Espresso 20 - 70 ml/0.7 - 2.4 oz

Strong espresso 20 - 70 ml/0.7 - 2.4 oz

Coffee 80 - 120 ml/2.7 - 4.0 oz

Long coffee 120 - 220 ml/4.0 - 7.4 oz

We recommend that you use pasteurised 1 or 2% milk. The milk should be quite cold, ideally between42° F and 50° F (6 and 10° C). After having used the steam or hot water functions, the nozzle may behot, and we recommend that you wait for a few moments before handling it.

To remove any remainingmilk from the steam nozzle, place a receptacle underthe steam nozzle andpress the button .

...again press the “steam”button to stop the cycle.Cycle do not stop immediately.

Press the button. The light will flash while the machine heats up.Once the pre-heating phase has been completed, the light will remain on continuously and you can startproducing steam by again pressing the button. A little water will be produced first and then steam will start. Press the same button to stop steam generation.

11

USING STEAM

FROTHING MILK

To interrupt the steam function, just press any button. Be careful as the nozzle may be hot.If the nozzle is blocked, clean it out with the needle included in the machine. The maximum duration for production of steam per cycle is limited to 2 minutes.

AUTO-CAPPUCCINO ACCESSORY (SOLD SEPARATELY)

To prevent the milk drying on and in the auto-cappuccino accessory we strongly recommend that you immediately :- put clean water inside the jug and reinstall the different components- run a “steam” cycle- clean all parts with a moist cloth. You can also use our special XS 4000 cleaner for milk systems.

Steam is used to froth milk (for cappuccino / latte) but can also be used to reheat other liquids. As youneed a higher temperature to produce steam than to make an espresso, the machine runs an additionalpre-heating phase for steam.

Check that the steamnozzle is correctly fitted.

Fill a frothing pitcherone-third and immersethe nozzle in the milk.

Run for at least10 seconds, then againpress the steambutton to stopgenerating steam.

Once your milk is frothyenough to your liking...

Activate the steamfunction as explainedabove.

You can remove the steam nozzle for thorough cleaning. Wash itusing a brush with water and a little non-abrasive dish soap.Rinse and dry it.
