Marilyn has been serving the patients at HHC for 35 years where she is in charge of the surgery department and runs several outpatient clinics such as cardiology, ENT (ear, nose & throat) and urology. Marilyn said, “I love working in surgery. Each case is always unique and interesting. But my favorite part of my job has always been helping the patients.” Over the three and a half decades Marilyn has been at HHC, she has been a charge nurse on every shift and used to work mainly evenings when her children were young. Marilyn received her degree from Bryan Memorial School of Nusing in Lincoln after attending Nebraska Wesleyan for the first year.
Marilyn lives with her husband of 35 years, Jay in Henderson, NE. They have 3 children, Carly (Grant) Hiebner, Christianne and Ashton. Carly is a physical therapist in Grand Island, Christianne is in pharmacy school at UNMC and Ashton is studying elementary education at Tabor College. Jay and Marilyn have one grandchild, Caden Thomas, 14 months old.
Marilyn is active in the Bethesda Mennonite Church where she is a pianist and helps with music for the grade schoolers and high school Powerhouse Group. She enjoys music, golf and reading, as well as eating a favorite local cuisine, verenike. Her favorite sports team is the Heartland Huskies (although she will be cheering for Tabor College’s Track & Field Team in the Spring!) Marilyn says she could not live without her faith and her family.
Thank you for your dedication, Marilyn! Our patients can count on Marilyn and the rest of the caring, knowledgable staff at Henderson Health Care for the best care for their families.

I’m so confused by what people are saying about vaccines! Should my family receive flu shots? The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year.
Anyone can get the flu (even healthy people), and serious problems related to the flu can happen at any age.
While receiving the influenza vaccine may not be pleasant, especially for children, it is better than suffering with flu symptoms, missing work or school, or being hospitalized with influenza complications.
For more information, please visit with your healthcare provider.

Each year, the York News-Times asks readers to submit their votes for the “Best of York”. The ballots cover a gamut of categories including best places to eat, favorite people, best places to get things done, etc.
The staff at Henderson Health Care made their voices heard by submitting enough ballots to be named the York area’s best place to work.
Valerie Nunnenkamp, Marketing Director, announced this award to the staff by saying, “This is due 100% to you and the rest of the people in this building. Pay and benefits can make a job good, but the people make it great. Each and every one of you go above and beyond to do your part – and your part is crucial to the success of this business and the overall experience of our residents and patients. Your hard work and dedication is noticed every day. You make this the best place to work.”

Henderson Health Care Services will hold their annual telethon on November 2, 2015. This is our time to say thank you for all past contributions and to ask you for continued support. Our facility was built with and is maintained through your support. All donations are welcome, no matter the size. Each year we have a project. This year our project will be a new hood for Chemo Medication Preparation Area. Last year our project was the new digital mammogram machine which is in operation.
We will be calling on this evening. We know it is not possible to reach all of you. We do leave a message or attempt to call back. If you don’t have a land line, we may be unable to reach you. You are welcome to leave your donation at either Henderson State Bank or Cornerstone Bank in Henderson for the Henderson Health Care Foundation telethon.
Henderson Health Care has growing pains and this is a wonderful problem to have. We are in conversation about how to maximize our space as we add new services for our community.

While tonsillectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures, patients often report that it is also one of the most painful. To reduce the pain associated with tonsillectomies and speed healing, Dr. John Pflug, an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, is using ENTceps, a novel surgical technology that minimizes tissue damage – and his patients are reporting exceptional results.
Conventional devices used to perform tonsillectomies transmit electrical energy through the patient or tissue, which can damage surrounding tissue and cause excessive bleeding and intense post-operative pain. As a result, it can take weeks for a patient to fully recover and resume his or her normal life.
Unlike conventional devices, ENTceps employs an advanced, proprietary technology, called Thermal Fusion (also known as Tissue Welding), to remove the tonsils and simultaneously seal the tissue from which they were removed. Because the device uses only pure heat and pressure, it minimizes tissue damage, resulting in improved patient outcomes. Studies have shown that patients who have undergone ENTceps tonsillectomies experience less pain and bleeding compared with other surgical techniques.
