Advancing Ayurveda in Colorado: Can we integrate Ayurveda? Plus events, announcements, and more! Fall 2015 Newsletter President's Letter Integrating Ayurveda with Western Medicine COLORAMA Events Calendar for September-October Fall 2015 Presidents Letter Dear members of the Colorado Ayurvedic Medical Association, I use Ayurveda in my daily life to help balance the speed of vata, the fire of pitta, and to hone the stability of kapha, while honoring the element of space which connects us all, the air which moves, the fire which transforms, the water which quenches, nourishes and cools, and the earth which supports. I long to heal humanity by remembering our fundamental relationship with these great panchabhutas. Ayurveda is being practiced in many forms, at many levels, by many practitioners, often with little training and incomplete understanding of the scriptural and textual authority which informs our practice. On the National and International levels debate continues unabated about scopes of practice, educational qualifications, and licensing and certification requirements. Our National Association of Ayurvedic Medicine has worked for over 10 years to create scopes of practice documents , and continues to work towards licensing requirements. Knowledge of ethics standards for Ayurvedic practice has become a mandatory requirement of NAMA membership, which can be found here: http://www.ayurvedanama.org/?page=Professional_Ethics At the local level, we also grapple with these questions, and strive to uplift our members with best practices that we may, as Charaka instructed, "strive constantly for knowledge, progress, and excellence." At the heart of COLORAMA is sangha - our gathering together in community as an association or assembly of members who strive towards excellence in the practice of Ayurveda and the associated Vedic practices including Jyotish and Vastu. Our next opportunity to gather together to advance our practice of Ayurveda in Colorado is with Dr. Nita Desai at the Solstice center on Friday September 25 at 6pm. Dr. Desai will be presenting an important topic on the integration of Ayurveda with Western Medicine, and is open to all members of COLORAMA free of charge. COLORAMA Events Calendar for

September-October

Fall 2015 Presidents Letter Dear members of the Colorado Ayurvedic Medical

Association,

I use Ayurveda in my daily life to help balance the speed of vata, the fire of pitta, and to hone the stability of kapha,

while honoring the element of space which connects us all, the air which moves, the

fire which transforms, the water which quenches, nourishes and cools, and the

earth which supports.

I long to heal humanity by remembering our fundamental relationship with these

great panchabhutas.

Ayurveda is being practiced in many forms, at many levels, by many practitioners,

often with little training and incomplete understanding of the scriptural and textual

authority which informs our practice.

On the National and International levels debate continues unabated about scopes of practice, educational

qualifications, and licensing and certification requirements. Our National Association of Ayurvedic Medicine has

worked for over 10 years to create scopes of practice documents, and continues to work towards licensing

requirements. Knowledge of ethics standards for Ayurvedic practice has become a mandatory requirement of

NAMA membership, which can be found here: http://www.ayurvedanama.org/?page=Professional_Ethics

At the local level, we also grapple with these questions, and strive to uplift our members with best practices that we

may, as Charaka instructed, "strive constantly for knowledge, progress, and excellence."

At the heart of COLORAMA is sangha - our gathering together in community as an association or assembly of

members who strive towards excellence in the practice of Ayurveda and the associated Vedic practices including

Jyotish and Vastu.

Our next opportunity to gather together to advance our practice of Ayurveda in Colorado is with Dr. Nita Desai at

the Solstice center on Friday September 25 at 6pm. Dr. Desai will be presenting an important topic on the

integration of Ayurveda with Western Medicine, and is open to all members of COLORAMA free of charge. To

renew your membership or join, please visit http://www.coloradoayurveda.org/membership or reach out to me directly

at [email protected]

And, if the sangha moves you and you wish to contribute your efforts on behalf of the Colorado Ayurvedic

Medicine Association, please consider nominating yourself to the Board of Directors or joining as an active and

participatory committee member. Send your resume and letter of interest to [email protected]

May all beings be free from every type of suffering!

Yours, Heather Baines
