Reading Corps

Nearly one in three 3rd graders in Minnesota is failing to reach basic levels of literacy. You can help change

that.

As a Minnesota Reading Corps literacy tutor, you can help change this statistic and the lives of struggling read-ers. As the nation’s largest state AmeriCorps program, we are recognized because our tutors are getting results with the students they serve and are helping to ensure that all children are successful readers by the end of third grade.

Become a tutor! We are recruiting full time and part time Literacy tutors in Saint Cloud and surrounding ar-eas. Tutors commit to one year of AmeriCorps service. They are parents, grandparents, recent college gradu-ates, mid-career professionals and retirees who may want to get more involved at our school, explore a new career in education, re-enter the workforce or give back to their community. We train our tutors prior to service.

Benefits of serving include: • Training and coaching in research-based literacy practice

methods

• Impacting the lives of children who need extra support to become proficient readers

• Biweekly living allowance of about $544 (for full-time)

• Education award of up to $5,730

• Stronger connection to the Saint Cloud Community

Serve to grow. One year. This year. Now is the time to apply for 2015-2016 positions. For more information about literacy tutor positions available please contact: Melissa Walton at 612-327-4776 or [email protected]
