Among Friends
Fall 2016
Your Membership
Thank you to those of you who have paid your Friends dues. Dues are owed if your mailing label says March or September 2016. Please consider renewing your membership to remain on the mailing list and to benefit the library. Annual dues are $5 per individual or $10 per family and lifetime dues are $50 per individual or $100 per family. Dues may be paid at or sent to the library – please make checks payable to the Friends of the Ripon Public Library. Thank you for your support!
Community Survey
When you vote in the upcoming presidential election you might notice li-brary staff and board members handing out our new community survey. We’re looking for input on many topics, such as library usage, familiarity with library services and events, perception of the library, and ways we can change or improve. And, we’re looking for these answers from all represent-atives of the community—the people who use—or don’t use—the library, in hopes of better serving our community. Please take a few minutes to com-plete the survey and help guide our future. You’ll also earn a chance to win $25 as a thank-you for your time.
Puzzle Exchange
Pass the upcoming winter nights with the help of some jigsaw puzzles! The Friends have established a puzzle exchange, located in the library’s copier room. It’s a take-one-leave-one way to enjoy some new puzzles without spending a dime.

Answer the Call: Volunteers Needed!
The Friends of the Library are seeking volunteers to help in numerous ways to support the library. Their primary need is for book sale preparation. Sorting usually takes place on Tuesday evenings and Thursday afternoons leading up to the sale. Volunteers sort the books into different categories and file them on the shelves. Clerks are needed on the days of the actual sales to act as cashiers and room monitors. Sign-up sheets for the upcoming sale are available at the library. If you would like to be added to the volunteer list, please leave your contact information (name and email/phone number) with library staff and you will be contacted as needed.
Mobile HotSpots—Take the Internet Home with You
Are you among the roughly 25% of American households without home Internet service? Do you live in a rural area that local Internet service providers, such as cable or telephone companies, don't cover? Or are you traveling and would appreciate free Internet almost anywhere you roam?
Try out our mobile hotspot! The device checks out for 2 weeks and lets you connect up to 10 of your wireless devices to a high-speed Internet connection provided by the Sprint network. Enjoy free Internet access courtesy of your library. We’ll soon have at least three HotSpots in circulation.

The Friends support many library programs and events throughout the year. This year, you helped make possible the annual Summer Reading Program, which included a popular paper-making workshop and lots of happy prize winners, another class of “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” graduates, and 70+ children saying “Bonjour!” at our “Fancy Nancy” tea party.
