Applied Electronics and Christie brought the annual salmon run to Vancouver’s Cambie Street Bridge in a striking projection mapping display for Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations. With content provided by Canada Wild Productions and using eight Christie 3DLP® projectors, the attraction, titled ‘Uninterrupted,’ opened June 28, 2017 and ran into early Fall 2017. The cinematic spectacle celebrated British Columbia’s annual salmon run, which sees millions of salmon migrate from the Pacific Ocean to their spawning grounds. However, unlike many projection-mapping projects that use tailor-made, computer generated content, the Cambie Street Bridge project would show the natural world without creating the fish digitally and controlling their movement. Applied Electronics designed and upgraded the existing analog audio/video system to the latest digital and video conferencing technology in their Executive Boardroom and two meeting rooms at the Brampton head office and regional office in Pointe-Claire, QC. Shared Services Canada (SSC) is responsible for delivering mandated email, data centre and network services to partner organizations in a consolidated and standardized manner to support the delivery of Government of Canada programs and services. SSC also provides certain optional technology-related services to government organizations on a cost-recovery basis. As part of SSC’s mandate expanded with the addition of the consolidation of government-wide procurement of software and hardware for workplace technology devices.Appplied Electronics designed and integrated a brand new conferencing system in an existing boardroom at SSC’s

office in Québec, which now enables improved collaboration among local and remote team members. The new audio visual system includes a Polycom RealPresence HD Codec with Polycom EagleEye digital conferencing cameras, a NEC 90” LED panel display, two NEC 50” LED LCD display monitors, and an Extron control system.Applied Electronics also upgraded a boardroom at the SSC head office in Ottawa, Ontario, with a new display system including a Sharp 60” AQUOS interactive LED panel display with HDMI and USB extender to laptop location in the boardroom.

Applied Electronics Designs and Integrates New Conferencing Systems into Boardrooms in Multiple Offices for Shared Services Canada

Multi-Health Systems Inc. (MHS) provides Psychological Assessments and Services and a leading publisher of scientifically validated assessments for more than 30 years.Applied Electronics designed and integrated a new audio visual system in MHS’ training facility at their Canadian head office in North York, Ontario. The educational theatre boasts two 119” (diagonal) 16:9 Draper Access FIT E electric projection screens, two Panasonic WUXGA 1920 x 1080 resolution LCD projectors, and a SMART kapp iQ + Pro one-touch access interactive whiteboard to capture notes and ideas in real time to any connected laptop, tablet, smartphone, or other SMART boards. The Polycom RealPresence Group 700 HD

video conferencing system with a Polycom EagleEye IV camera and Polycom Group Lync Interop enable users to remotely join a presentation and participate in a training session. The audio system includes a Toa multi-channel amplifier, JBL Control 70V ceiling speakers and Sennheiser G3 wireless bodypack transmitter for the presenter. All room automation and control is achieved with a Crestron control system with a 8.7” wall mounted touchpanel. A complete, high-definition presentation control and signal routing solution for classrooms, boardrooms, lecture halls, and videoconference rooms, the Crestron 3-Series DigitalMedia presentation system 300 integrates the control system,

multi-format matrix switcher, mic mixer, audio DSP, amplifier, and DigitalMedia distribution center all into a single 3-space rackmount package.The executive boardroom boasts a Polycom unified conference station for Microsoft Lync, which delivers a unique HD voice and video collaboration experience in Skype for Business environments, and offers an 360-degree “round-table” video collaboration experience with Microsoft Lync. The room’s audio visual system also includes a NEC 65” FHD LED LCD panel display, a SMART kapp iQ + Pro one-touch access interactive whiteboard, a Crestron DigitalMedia presentation system, an Extron HDMI distribution amplifier, Clear One ceiling microphone arrays, JBL ceiling speakers, and a Biamp Tesira FORTE T1 DSP fixed I/O server.

Applied Electronics Mobilizes Multi-Health Systems’ Training and Collaboration with Video Conferencing

The National Film Board of Canada is Canada’s public film and digital media producer and distributor.Prior to its digitization project to improve its archiving infrastructure, preserve and protect all of the NFB’s analog footage from decay, the NFB had been creating dual copies on LTO tapes in their tape library. However to meet one of their heritage preservation goals – which was to maintain two copies of every media asset on two very different storage technologies with long life expectancies, in two completely different locations – the NFB purchased a Spectra Logic TFinity tape library.

Mobilimage Adds IP Live Production Capabilities with Canada’s First Installation of GV Node & GV Convergent

The City of Winnipeg’s new Transportation Management Centre, equipped with a Barco collaborative visualization platform, now experiences significantly improved situational awareness, which has lead to smoother travel for its residents and visitors.

Applied Electronics upgraded the City’s traffic operations centre with a new traffic incident management system. A new Signal Management System and Video Management System (VMS) outfitted with 70 traffic cameras help technical staff verify traffic situations at key locations and remotely adjust traffic signals – in minutes instead of days. A plethora of data sources and information is seamlessly integrated onto a TransForm N-driven Barco IVD-5521 LCD video wall and shared with other main displays and operator screens thanks to the Control Room Management Software Suite.

in News & Broadcast Media IndustryDave’s 30-year professional career in television news included 7- and 14-year stints at CJOH Ottawa and two years at CKWS Kingston. He was a Station Manager at APTN and oversaw the studio build at their new Winnipeg Broadcast Centre in 2000.

Dave joined Applied Electronics in 2002 as a Sales Consultant specializing in News products, In 2004, he accepted a full time role on the sales team as a Broadcast Sales Representative to manage key accounts and help grow sales in Ontario, Manitoba and the Maritime provinces.

“Dave’s industry knowledge, experience, passion, and dedication to his craft is second to none,” says Jim Goessinger, VP of Broadcast & Data Systems Division. “After 13 years of loyal service to Applied Electronics, we will surely miss Dave and wish him all the best of retirement life.”

DENIS GAGNE Retires After 11 Years of Loyal Service to Applied ElectronicsDenis joined Applied Electronics in 2006, fulfilling a highly demanded role as I.T. Technologist in the I.T. department. He provided help desk support to all six Applied Electronics’ regional offices and meets the software and hardware technical requirements that are necessary for the daily operations of each employee.

Take Your Kids to Work Day took place at Applied Electronics on

November 1, 2017. We welcomed three Grade 9 students, Ray Jiang, Aidan Moulton and Sebastian Drygas, at our Mississauga head office. They spent the day learning about the world of work and received some technical training at a Cable CAT 5 crimping station with our Technicians.

as an Installation Technician and now has accepted the new challenge of streamlining our warehouse and logistics work flow. We wish him the best in his new role.

Roosvelt Lamour and his wife welcomed their second daughter, Zharya, on September 11, 2017. Both mom and baby are doing well and happy to be home. Congratulations to the happy family. Roosvelt is a Service Technician on our Montreal technical team.
