WELCOME TO ’S ART SCHOOL

As Rochester’s art school for all ages and an important part of the museum’s connection to the community, we are pleased you have found this brochure of our Fall offerings. Every Autumn our region glows in the glorious colors of fall leaves and this year you can draw inspiration from that and from a show of the work of Claude Monet in the museum. It’s a fantastic time to create!

We have something for everyone—from very SHORT programs that get you started to more thorough classes teaching you to draw, paint, make pottery, create jewelry, and weave. Our children’s classes are fun, dynamic, and include opportunities to express a young person’s ideas and interests. Our adult classes provide chances to learn new skills, open your creativity, and make new friends. We have seen people grow into artists that they didn’t think that they could be!

This beginner-level course will introduce you to the basics of the potter’s wheel. You’ll learn wedging, centering, throwing small cylinders, trimming and glaze basics. Open to anyone! At the end of the six weeks, you will have a beautiful four-sided, fall or winter themed lantern that you can use in your own home. You will also have the skills you need to create more pieces on your own. Long pants, close-toed shoes and prolonged standing are required. An additional glass fee of $45-$55 is payable to the instructor.


CLAY CLASSES Our clay classes are designed to give students the full experience of forming and glazing their own work. All firing is included in the price of the class, as are all glazes. Each teacher approaches the class with a unique style, with an eye towards demonstrating and instilling fine craftsmanship and safe techniques from your very first project. REFUND POLICYThe Workshop reserves the right to cancel any class. • Classes with inadequate enroll ment are cancelled

one week before the first class meeting. All fees are refunded when the Workshop cancels a class.

• Registrations, minus a $30 processing fee, are refundable a week prior and up to the second class meeting. No refunds for classes that only meet once.

• We cannot prorate class fees for students not attending all class meetings.

• The Memorial Art Gallery reserves the right to remove or bar any person from Creative Workshop classes who, in MAG’s judgment, poses a perceived or actual threat to person or property or whose conduct disrupts or interferes with the class.

Please note that the Workshop reserves the right to make teacher changes or cancel classes when necessary.

ABOUT OUR PRICESThe Workshop has long offered classes at the lowest rates possible. If the price of a class is what keeps you from considering it, please don’t hesitate to inquire about a payment plan or need-based scholarship.

Each year, approximately 100 students take Workshop classes at a reduced rate through the support of many generous endowment funds.
