I’m excited (and I hope you are too) about all the signs of new life springing up around our church! What you hold in your

hands highlights some of those signs. In this booklet you will learn about the many opportunities available here at SCPC this fall. There are events, classes, serving opportunities and fellowship activities all designed to help you grow deeper in the grace of Jesus Christ and in your relationships with other

members of God’s family.

There are many, many things that holler out for your attention and time. Sometimes the important things in life don’t clamor

for your attention. This booklet is full of important things! I hope that in the midst of all the busyness that characterizes our world you will make it a priority to participate in some of these offerings to help you in your spiritual life. Spend some

time looking over this booklet and perhaps choose 2 or 3 activities in which you can participate this fall to take another step forward in your walk with God. And maybe invite a friend

to join you.

With gratitude in being your pastor,Steve

WorshipWe gather together in order to worhip the Triune God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) and we do that three different ways on Sunday morning:

Traditional Worship @ 9:00 a.m.Rooted in our Presbyterian liturgy, you will experience classical hymns led from the organ and piano with occasional special songs performed by our Sanctuary and Bell choirs.

Modern Worship @ 10:45 a.m.Less tradition, more volume. Our second service is more casual in form and leads with energy from our band and vocal team. The same message is preached at both the 9 and 10:45 a.m. services.

Spanish Worship @ 12:45 a.m.A contemporary service led entirely in Spanish by Pastor Juan Bonilla. See the “Hispanic Ministry” page for more info.

Wherever you find yourself, we hope you are able to experience the magnanimous love of Christ and worship God with authenticity and wholeheartedness in order that you may live out your life of faith the rest of the week.

Adult DiscipleshipGod is at work in and through our growing together. There are four major components of discipleship at SCPC. The four components are The Groundings Experience, Fall Classes, Bible Studies and Small Groups. The Groundings Experience is the cornerstone experience for discipleship at SCPC. Adult classes help us grow in our understanding and skill and small groups help grow us together in faith community.

The Groundings Experience“Greater things than these will you do.” Jesus in John 14:12 Together in Groundings, through prayer, Bible study, and discussion we will follow the example of Jesus in practical assignments at home, work, school and play. We’ll learn new ways, affirm some old ways, and undo unhelpful ways of following Jesus every day through taking a fresh look at his teaching and life. We will covenant to be transparent and vulnerable in honestly sharing our daily experiences of following Jesus into the world, noticing God at work in and around us and in others, for the sake of Christ’s Kingdom. We will help each other discern where and how to help others become grounded in Jesus and actively participate in his Kingdom work.

PreschoolOur PhilosophyChildren learn and develop best in a safe, loving and nurturing environment. At SCPC Preschool, each child comes to know that they are a precious gift from God. We provide an excellent educational experience and a Christian atmosphere, while meeting the developmental needs of the children.

ProgramOur program provides a curriculum for all learning domains and is designed to meet the developmental needs of the whole child (aesthetic, affective, cognitive, language, physical, social and spiritual). We are developmentally appropriate. Developmental appropriateness is defined in two parts: a) age appropriateness, or the universal, predictable sequences of growth and change that occur in children as they go through their early years of life and b) individual appropriateness or the unique growth sequence of each child with their own pattern and timing, as well as individual personality, learning style, and family background experiences.

Friday NightsFriday Nights is a multi-generational Latino/Hispanic youth group for the community of San Clemente, and surrounding cities. Friday Nights is committed to God’s kingdom in learning to teach, ministering, and overcoming challenges together.

Our desire is to learn scripture, and not solely know it but to teach others to know and understand scripture. In doing so, learning how deep and how wide God’s love is for every individual person. That all may know the grace that has been given to us and be gracious to others. Ministering to each other

We strive to remind ourselves that we gather to worship God with praises in songs, sharing testimonies, praying for one another, as well as supporting each other in search of answers. Our prayer is that by learning scripture, by understanding God’s love, and through worshiping God in ministering with each other; we as a community would be better equip to overcome barriers in and out of our lives and help others overcome as well.

Engagement Engagement 30

New Members class: Sept 29 & Oct 6th (Thursday nights 6:30-8:30 p.m.) This class is intended for individuals seeking to explore the Christian faith and the ministry of San Clemente Presbyterian Church. Attending this class does not mean that you are committed to unite in membership with the church. If upon completion of the class you do not feel ready to become a member, that is fine. We welcome the opportunity to get to know you a little better and to help you make an informed decision about the Christian faith and our congregation. We plan to discuss such questions as:

What does it mean to be a Christian? How do you grow in the Christian faith? How can you connect with the life of our congregation? What growth opportunities does SCPC offer? What service opportunities does SCPC offer? What does church membership mean and what are its benefits? What makes the Presbyterian denomination unique? What is the purpose and vision of SCPC?

In addition to having the chance to explore these questions, the classes also provide you with the opportunity to meet some new friends and the staff of our church. If you have not been baptized as a child or an adult, part of joining SCPC is to be baptized. Since this is not one of the topics discussed during the class, a pastor will want to further describe the process with you either during the class, or in the days prior. Free childcare is available.

If you are unable to attend this class there will be future classes you can sign up for if interested. Just let us know and we can include your names to be contacted for upcoming classes. If you plan on attending this New Members class, please enroll by checking the box on the Welcome card on Sundays, or by contacting our office at 949.492.6158 or email Allison Eckert at [email protected]

Deacons – Are the primary welcomers and connectors at SCPC engaging with members and newcomers to assist them in getting plugged in to the life of the church beyond Sunday morning.

Welcome Cart – the Sunday morning center of the patio for receiving and giving information from and to guests for more engagement Café Clemente – provides refreshments for members and guests to engage between services
