Michael Hoopingarner – Clubhouse Manager Michael began his career with the Pebble Beach Company in 2013. He was a manager in housekeeping at The Lodge and the Front Desk at Spanish Bay. Michael excelled in both roles and was promoted to Assistant Housekeeping Manager at The Lodge in April 2014. Michael’s patience, professionalism and customer service skills will be a great asset to the Club.

Amanda Kerby – Pilates Instructor Joining Olava and her Pilates team is Amanda Kerby. Amanda graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a BA in Dance, and received her Pilates certification through BASI. Amanda teaches conventions and master classes throughout the nation, as well as judges dance competitions internationally including Japan, Mexico, and Australia. Amanda is available for personal Pilates training in The Studio. Please call The Studio at (831) 622-8645.

Allen Orozco –Swim Instructor We are excited to welcome Allen Orozco as out new Swim Instructor. Allen has an extensive background in aquatics where he oversaw programs ranging from juniors to masters. Allen has taught swimming to juniors and adults at Monterey Peninsula College and Hartnell College. To schedule lessons with Allen please contact him at (831) 710-0120.

I am pleased to announce that the Club Membership Directory has been completed. For those that are on The Club email database, an electronic version of the directory was emailed out at the end of September. For those without email, we will have hard copies available at the office that you can pick up. Please continue to send us any changes to your contact information as this will ensure we always have an accurate electronic version that we can send out at any time. Many of you took advantage of the new fitness equipment orientation sessions that were offered by our personal trainers this past month. The Monterey Bay is an amazing place to view marine mammalslike sea otters, seals, and sea lions. Officials at the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary sent us a reminder about important safety guidelines and federal regulations for those of us who spend time in the Bay. Here are a few guidelines for swimmers, kayakers, SUPers, and boaters:

•Federallawstatesthatpeoplemuststayatleast150feetfromseaotters. •Ifanotteroranymarinemammalkeepseyecontactwithsomeone,thatisasignthatthepersonis too close and that the animal is wary of future actions or movements. •Ifananimalmustswimaway,thenthepersonistooclosetotheanimal. •Nooneshouldeverpursueorchaseanotteroranyothermarinemammal. •OtterslikeallothermarinemammalsareprotectedunderFederalLaw,theMarineMammalProtection Act, and many marine mammals are also further protected under the Federal Endangered Species Act. •Chasing,pursuingortouchinganyoftheseanimalsisnotonlydangerous,butisalsoaFederal offense that can carry hefty fines.

Tennis TipThe Ticket for a Better Forehand.

After observing match play on the courts of The Beach & Tennis Club, I have put together three ideas to help each and every one of you to hit a stronger forehand.

1. EARLY PREPARATION: This means the racquet is going back as soon as you have determined your opponents shot is going to your forehand. It does not matter if you have a loop on your backswing or if you pull your racquet straight back. You must get the racquet back as quickly as possible in order to be ready for the shot.2. ELBOW IN: I took note that the good forehands had an important trait; in that the elbow stayed somewhat close by to the body on the take back (Back swing) and slowly moved away as each player goes closer to the point of contact. This action gives the shot stability and the stroke itself will become more consistent.3. FINISH YOUR STROKE: The players that hit strong forehands continue through their stroke after they have made contact with the ball. Not only will you have better ball control but it will enable you to hit with additional depth and power (elements we all are looking striving for).

These three tips will help you deliver a stroke off your forehand side that will contain depth, control, and power. What more could a player ask for when they step on the court? That is your ticket for a better forehand. See you on the courts!
