Family business Van Winkel Fashion: Shirt specialist since 1949

In the south of the Netherlands, nestled between Eindhoven and Weert lies Budel, the home base of shirt brand John Miller. Shirt specialist Van Winkel Fashion who was already established in Budel since 1949,

launched the brand in 1989.

Sjef van Winkel, founder of the family business Van Winkel Fashion, was always bothered by the untidy collars on shirts. Curling collar points, weak edges, and impractical buttons were a source of great frustration to him. “I can do better than that!” he must have thought back in 1949 when he founded the family business

Van Winkel Fashion.

Creation of John Miller in 1989In the 50s Van Winkel Fashion produced shirts mainly for the Dutch army. In the early 60s thousands of shirts per week were made for the large Dutch retailers such as C&A and HIJ. In 1963 Van Winkel Fashion took the huge step of launching Ledûb, their first shirt brand for the middle market. In 1989 the John Miller

brand was added for the higher end market.

The brand John Miller was created from the Van Winkel Fashion label Cotonissimo, that guaranteed luxury shirts made from 100% pure cotton provided by a European supplier. In 1989 the name John Miller was introduced with the additional words ‘Original Cotonissimo’. From the spring of 1995 the additional words

were dropped and the brand name became John Miller.

European Production

High-quality fabrics

The John Miller designers develop most of their fabrics themselves with European suppliers in order to guarantee high-quality products.

European Production Company

John Miller has its own production company in Macedonia with more than 185 employees. We are proud that the entire production process meets the stringent requirements of corporate social responsibility.

Finishing touch

In order to guarantee the high quality of each item there are checks in place between each process, any imperfections will be corrected. Then the shirt will be pressed in a cabin filled with steam. Each shirt is then

folded needleless by hand.

BlueSign label

We purchase materials exclusively from reliable suppliers who follow the guidelines for corporate social responsibility. A large part of the collection is made up of materials that we developed ourselves and which were woven by European partners. These luxurious fabrics with easy care finishing benefit from the BlueSign label, which means, among other things, that the water used for dying the fabric is cleaned and

returned to nature.

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety. All John Miller shirts comply with the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label. It means that every component of the fabric has been tested

for harmful substances and that the shirt therefore is harmless in human ecological terms.
