ACADEMIC ORIENTATION CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY Family Member Schedule Check in, Rotunda Room, Bovee University Center Opening Reception – Students and participating family members attend this meeting together. Introductions to orientation advising staff, program overview, and coffee service offered. At the conclusion of the reception, students and family members will separate to attend specific orientation programs. University Life Presentation This meeting is both informative and advisory. Common sense advice is presented about being a supportive parent or family member of a successful Central Michigan University student.. Financial Advising CMU experts present all the financial facts. Topics include cost of attendance, scholarships and financial aid, and billing procedures. Information will also be presented on student employment, banking, and identification card services. Guided Walking Tour Join the orientation mentor staff on a guided walking tour and escort to lunch. Lunch Enjoy the hospitality of a residence hall while dining in one of CMU’s outstanding residential restaurants. Travel to Staples Recital Hall, Music Building *College Life and Safety A positive residence hall community experience and promoting a safe campus and community environment are the main topics of discussion. Student Health Matters – This session provides an overview of services available for your student as it relates to University Health Services, Counseling Center, and Student Disability Services. Information and answers to questions regarding each area, including physical and mental health services, insurance, forms, and classroom accommodations available for students with disabilities will be covered.

Technology: Make Personal Computing Devices Work for You – Technology is a powerful partner for the successful college student. The O#ce of InformationTechnology not only supports the campus-wide WiFi network, but also provides services ranging from computer labs, campus-wide printing, online course management, and a dedicated Help Desk. Learn how to make the most of these services during this session.

Supporting Student Academic Success – What students bring to college is less important than what they do in college! For that reason, this session covers: the pro"le of a successful CMU student, potential pitfalls, and tips on how to e!ectively support your student’s success during their "rst year of college and beyond. This session will also introduce the Pathways to Academic Student Success (PATHWAYS) Program. PATHWAYSis designed to work with identi"ed incoming freshmen to help them transition from high school to college, avoid the pitfalls, and establish a successful, academic career at CMU.

» Financial Advising at the Student Service Court, Bovee UC lower level, room 119. Meet with advisors to continue discussion of CMU "nancial assistance and payment procedure.

» Leadership Safari and IMPACT Registration – Bovee University Center. Representatives from CMU’s Leadership Safari and IMPACT programs will be available to answer questions and accept registration for these exciting early move-in and student leadership events.

» CMU Bookstore Open House, Bovee University Center 202. Step inside the home of all things maroon and gold! This is a great opportunity to enter a drawing for free fall semester textbooks and learn about the Easy Text option.
