Most Reliable Fantasy Baseball First Basemen
First base may be the deepest of any position on the diamond. While Albert Pujols is
clearly the top choice, you can still pick up a very productive player well down the
Top 10 list.
1. Albert Pujols, St Louis Cardinals Has there ever been a player so clearly the
Most Reliable Fantasy Baseball First Basemen as Albert Pujols? The three-
time National League MVP is in the prime of his career (he just turned 30) is
in the top three in every major statistical category. If you dont have the first
pick in your draft that means you wont be getting Pujols.
2. Prince Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers Prince Fielder is solid as the number two
behind Pujols. He reached career highs in average (.299), rbi (141) and walks
(110). And of course he drilled 46 homers. Hell be just 26 in May.
3. Mark Teixera, New York Yankees Teixera gets a slight edge over Howard
because of his K/BB ratio. Hes also protected by several other sluggers in the
Yankees order and takes his cuts at the hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium. At a
minimum hell do his usual 35 and 110, while approaching a .300 average.
4. Ryan Howard, Philadelphia Phillies If K/BB isnt a factor in your league then
you may want to take Howard of Teixera. The only player with power
numbers in Howards class is Pujols. After Prince Albert, Howard might be the
most reliable fantasy baseball first baseman.
5. Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Cabrera Cabrera doesnt have the protection in thebatting order that blesses Teixera and Howard. Still, even in a down year he
went .324/34/103, a more driven Cabrera will surpass those.
6. Justin Morneau, Minnesota Twins -- Morneaus numbers took a hit last year
due to injury, but his slugging percentage (.516) was his highest since his
MVP year of 2006. When healthy hes capable of posting numbers with the
best at his position. The lefty should also benefit from playing at the new
Target Field and its short right-field porch.
7. Adrian Gonzalez, San Diego Padres Gonzalezs walk and homer totals have
gone up the last four years culminating in 119 and 40 in 2009. If a rumoredtrade goes through he may be able to boost his RBI totals as well.
8. Kendry Morales, Los Angeles Angels The Cuban exile finally met the Angels
expectations when he hit .306 with 34 homers and 108 rbi. At 27, hell be
counted on to replicate those figures.

9. Mark Reynolds, Arizona Diamondbacks Forgotten among Reynolds feast or
famine statistics (44 hrs, 223 whiffs) were his 24 stolen bases.
10.Derrek Lee, Chicago Cubs just when analysts were about to say Lee was
over the hill, he posted .306/35/111 in 2009. Expect him to approach those
numbers with a better Cubs team in 2010.
Sleepers: Kevin Youkilis, Boston Red Sox, Lance Berkman, Houston Astros.
