ON TRAC FOR A RIPPER YEAR

FA N TA S Y F R E A KO

Hi and welcome to the first H&A edition of the Fantasy Freako’s rave for 2018. The season opener was all about Tom Mitchell and his magnificent feat – breaking the all-time disposal record as he racked up 54 against Collingwood. He also helped himself to a round-high 156 points, with Lance Franklin not too far behind with 151

after an eight-goal haul against West Coast.

This week is all about making corrective trades, especially if you started the season without boom rookies Tom Doedee, Timothy Kelly or Nick Holman.

As an added bonus this year, I’ll be highlighting the leaders in four stat categories on a weekly basis. This can be used as a guide when planning your trades.

Enjoy this week’s read and best of luck for the upcoming round.

Even though we are only one round in, keeping tabs on high breakeven scores is smart team management. There are a host of seasoned fantasy stars that didn’t turn up in Round 1, led by Dayne Zorko. He was virtually unsighted against the Saints and scored just 57 points, his fifth-lowest score since 2015. As a result, he needs a score of 162 against Melbourne to keep his price, a tally that is well beyond his reach.

Zach Merrett has the highest overall breakeven of any player after scoring an injury affected 23 points against Adelaide from 20 minutes of game time. If he’s fit to fly to Perth and face Fremantle, his record against the Dockers makes for good reading, scoring 124 and 144 points against them in 2017. Keep a close eye on his fitness.

Elsewhere, Nat Fyfe was mediocre by his standards, especially after his strong pre-season form. He scored 67 points against Port Adelaide which was his third-lowest score in any season opener on record. He didn’t do a lot on the spread, finishing with 14 post-clearance disposals. Hopefully it’s just a one off and he hits back strongly against Essendon.

SHOPPING LISTWith Mason Cox sidelined due to suspension, Brodie Grundy owners will be looking forward to him rucking alone this week against Rory Lobb. Grundy has scored 119 and 111 points from his past two games against the Giants, so a breakeven of 131 is definitely reachable based on previous history. Grundy’s hitout win rate of 61% last week was the fifth-highest percentage among all ruckmen, with only Jordan Roughead, Scott Lycett, Nic Naitanui and Aaron Sandilands ranking higher.

Finally, over 20% of Sam Menegola’s owners will be contemplating moving him out after starting with 69 points against Melbourne. His poor return wasn’t due to a lack of midfield time, spending 64% of the match in the midfield, while attending the third-most centre bounces behind Joel Selwood and Gary Ablett. With Patrick Dangerfield set to return on Monday, his midfield time could dry up.

Below is a list of the leading fantasy assets to keep an eye on over the coming round’s.

price. With just two centre bounce attendances from 71%game time, I’m offloading him this week.
