Samuel is an amazing artist and he has already produced some outstanding work in Year 2.
Samuel’s passion for art extends beyond his wonderful accuracy and 3-D rendering to vivid and original creativity. Both his
drawing and modelling skills illustrate his gift for design. Focus, determination, and pride
in his work are qualities that Samuel has in great measure.
Laura joined us as a complete beginner to English half way through her Reception
year. She attended EAL support lessons and graduated to mainstream classes at the beginning of Year 2. Her levels
of spoken English, reading and writing now match those of a Year 2 child in the
UK and we’ll expect to see her beyond UK expectations very soon.
Now in Year 12, 16-year-old Aidan’s initial results, released over the summer, included
two A Grades; however a remark revealed some errors in the marking, and those two were upgraded to A* Grades.
Aidan has set his sights high for the International Baccalaureate which he
commenced in August, aiming for a repeat of the perfect score. “I know for Sydney University Medical School, which is the university I want to go to, to get straight into Medicine you need a perfect 45 score in IB,” he explains. He continues, “I’m aiming to get a 7 in every single subject!”
Adriano Arguedas Soley, Emiliano D’angio and Elisa Dalle Piagge on achieving the
highest Languages IGCSE scores in China! These three students sat their exams this summer in French (Adriano),
Spanish (Emiliano) and Italian (Elisa), and we are delighted to announce that
they have each received a certificate from the examination board marking their success. They
are officially the highest achievers out of all the students who sat the French, Spanish and Italian IGCSE in all the international schools in China.
At BISS we always encourage the older students to take leadership roles and to
nurture the younger students. Andy, one of our Year 13 students is no exception. The Reception children were privileged
to be able to observe a BISS artist who is preparing to go to a visual arts university
and Andy was able to experience the joy of sharing his talent.
Drawing is invaluable for young children. It encourages them to make different kinds of lines which will eventually be used for writing, it teaches them to pay attention to details and improves their concentration.
Emiliano takes a full and active part in all aspects of school life, and if not busy on the rugby pitch or playing soccer he is sure to be found studying hard or socialising with his friends. An accomplished sportsman, Emiliano has helped the Pudong Tigers in many of their sporting victories over the past few
years, in both rugby and volleyball. On the recent Activity Week trip to Western Guizhou, Emiliano showed great leadership skills when taking part in the group rafting and hiking activities and thoroughly enjoyed his time in Guiyang. In true all-round ability, Emiliano has chosen to stretch himself by taking
triple science in addition to his regular IGCSE subjects.. In addition to his regular IGCSE subjects Emiliano has chosen to stretch himself and take the triple science course, meaning that he will take three extra examinations at the end of Year 11.

Young people are citizens of today, not citizens in waiting. Citizenship is about developing in
learners the ability to take up their place in society as responsible, successful, effective and confident citizens both now and in the
future.
Amelie and Joseph Steele, worked really hard over the last weekend to sort, display and sell their old toys in a garage sale. They are going to donate all of the proceeds from the sale to Heart to Heart charity where the money will go towards a heart operation. The children raised a massive 2,500RMB! We are very proud of them, what great citizenship this demonstrates.
