• Curtain fabric has a “Panama” weave which allows the curtain to withstand hot air and smoke at temperatures up to 1000°C for 270 minutes

A Fire Curtain is designed to stop the spread of fire and as such descends to floor level and also incorporates side guides which allow a total fire seal to be attained.

FC2 Automatic Fire Curtains - Headbox Configurations

CURTAIN Made from X32k glass cloth micronised aluminium polymer fabric with stainless steel thread. Curtain fabric has a “Panama” weave which gives the curtain 10% more tensile strength than other fabrics due to the constant thread tension. Bottom bar is fixed to the lower edge of the fabric and is made from twin angles fixed back to back. The bottom bar helps stabilise the curtain during operation as well as providing weight to ensure the curtain descends when required. GUIDES Manufactured from 2mm thick galvanised mild steel and are 100mm deep and 50mm wide. The edge of the curtain is locked into the guides, providing a fire seal. FINISH Headbox, guides and bottom bar available in a range of standard RAL powder coated colours. OPERATION Fire curtains are designed to descend automatically when a fire alarm signal is received, and automatically retract when the signal is re-set or cancelled. Metalbilt recommends that fire curtains should not be installed in areas subject to variable air flows. During operation the curtain retracts until the bottom bar contacts the underside of the headbox. The control circuit senses the increased power consumption as the bottom bar attempts to retract further and the current is then reduced until the curtain remains in a stalled condition. When an alarm has been triggered power to the motor is removed and the curtain descends due to gravity until all the fabric is unwound. The control circuit ensures the rate of descent is fully controlled. Battery backup systems are included. MAINTENANCE Ensure access is available for servicing and maintenance.
