Advertised requests to community groups to become members of our job opening distribution list. During the reporting period 491 recorded announcements were aired on KUCV (FM) and KUON (TV) requesting acknowledgements of interest from the community for KUON’s job postings Outreach Activities Undertaken: Establishment of an internship program designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcasting employment. During the reporting period KUON continued to provide internship opportunities for students. These internships provided 19 students, including 4 minorities, the opportunity to work in News/Public Affairs, Sports, Development, Communications, Customer Service, Human Resources, Platte Basin TimeLapse Project, Information Technology, Information Services, and Production Services. KUON applied for and received a Cintani Technology Grant which provided financial support for an internship position in software development. Participated in at least four (4) programs sponsored by educational institutions relating to career opportunities in broadcasting. Multimedia Journalist mentored a broadcast/journalism sophomore at UNL and gave a general overview of the work they do. February 12, 2016. News Director gave a presentation and tour of NET to 3 students and professor and answered questions about broadcast journalism and the profession. February 15, 2016. Producer and Senior Promotion Producer served as judges for the State of Nebraska, Department of Education, FBLA Public Service Announcement Event. March, 2016. Audio Supervisor serves on Advisory Committee for Northeast Community College and advises college on how they can prepare students for working in the industry. Provided a tour of the facilities for 30 Northeast Community College Broadcast and Audio production students. March 15, 2016. Executive Producer gave a presentation to 8 students in a production class for the UNL College of Fine Arts at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. March 30, 2016. Multimedia Journalist spoke to a Union College communications class with 10 students regarding writing for digital audiences. April 19, 2016. A group of 20 students from Norris High School visited NET to learn about careers in public broadcasting. They were given a tour and information regarding the organization including some of our productions, radio broadcasting, and interactive education. April 27, 2016.

News Director gave a presentation and tour to 4 freshman students in a broadcast journalism class at the College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Discussed NET, public broadcasting, journalism techniques and principles along with our internship program. September 26, 2016. News Director gave a one hour presentation and 10 students in UNL broadcast journalism class. September 27, 2016. News Director gave a presentation and tour to 7 freshman students in a broadcast journalism class at the College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Discussed NET, public broadcasting, journalism techniques and principles along with our internship program. September 28, 2016. Customer Service Assistant provided a job shadow experience to a University student. September 29, 2016. Videography/Editing Production Supervisor provided a job shadow experience for a High School student who had an interest in television production. October 12, 2016. Multimedia Graphics Designer provided a job shadow experience for a high school student. October 17, 2016. A group of 20 students from a Union College Mass Media and Communications class visited KUON were given a tour and discussion of television and radio production. October 21, 2016. Participated in scholarship program designed to assist students interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting. KUON participated in the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Foundation Scholarship Program. Participation included making a financial donation to the program, promoting the availability of the scholarship on-air and on the website, providing application forms upon request, answering questions, and being involved in the selection process. List every upper-level opening in a job bank or newsletter of a media trade group whose membership includes substantial participation of women and minorities. Assistant General Manager – Digital Media and Assistant General Manager – Production were advertised websites with substantial participation by women and minorities.

Hosting at least one job fair. Co-hosted the Lincoln Area Broadcasters Job Fair on August 16, 2016 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lincoln Nebraska. The job fair coincided with the Nebraska Broadcasters Association annual convention. Human Resources Specialist participated in the planning meetings, the promotion, the staffing of the booth, and follow up meeting. The event was promoted on the NET Website and 45 promotional spots were run on television prior to the event. We met with 22 applicants regarding career opportunities during the job fair. Provide training to management level personnel on methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination: Employees must be certified to serve on a search committee by attending an EEO training program every three years. Human Resources provides consultative support to all staff, including management, regarding affirmative action, continuing our commitment to ensure equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination. Training program established to enable station personnel to acquire skills to qualify them for higher positions. Teamwork and Team Building seminar held on September 29, 2016 which was attended by 14 staff members. As University of Nebraska-Lincoln employees our staff has access to a wide range of professional development opportunities. These opportunities include supervisory training as well as job specific and other professional development training programs. University employees may also participate in the Employee Scholarship Program which enables them to take up to 15 credit hours of University courses in any 12-month period at no cost. Other activities to further the goal of disseminating employment opportunities to job candidates who might otherwise be unaware of such opportunities. Distributes job listings to 53 diverse organizations as well as listed position openings on our website. The diversity mailing list is updated periodically to adjust to staffing changes in these organizations and additional new resources are used. Social media sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn were added to our recruitment efforts. Tour Program: Building tours were conducted for groups that include the general public, grade school, middle school, high school, home schooled students, college students, first year broadcasting students, cub scouts, and day care programs. Human Resource Manager and Senior Producer participated in Department of Defense’s Transition to Veterans Program Briefing. September 19, 2016.
