GUDE SLOPE TNTERCEPTTON FROM ABOVE (END)

05 . SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

The l/C may be above the glide sbpe tor many operational reasons :

. ATC constraints or no clearance for a complete lLS.

. Radar vectoring given by the ATC to shorten the procedure.

A PBOCEDUBE

. Aircraft in normal configuration for LOC interception.

. Cross check and verify that "LOC" green is on FMA.

. Establish the landing configuration and reduce to VAPP.

. When the aircraft is clear for interception :

- GA ahitude set on FCU (or higher attitude if GA ahitude is the same as the presentone).

- V/S engaged (max 2000 fVmn).- Land mode engaged.

o Monitor the G/S diamond movement and adjust the V/S to facilitate and smoothen theestablishment on the glide path.

. When GS', set or verity the GA ahitude.r The A/C must be in landing configuration, eslablished and slabilized on ILS at the lates;t

by 1000 lt AGL (lMC) (or 500 ft VMC). lf not, a GA must be initiated.

B. V/S REVERSION

The reversion may occur when V/S mode is used for a glide slope interception from above.

When reaching VLS + 5 Kt (V/S positive) or Vuro< (V/S negative) the AP/FD willautomatically change to LWCH mode with selected speed as reference and FCU selectedaltitude as a targe{.

How to demon$rate this reversion :

r Eslablish the l/C on the localizer at normal interception ahitude + 1000 ft.. NQ configuration F20 and speed just below VFE.. @S interception from above with V/S mode - 2000 fUmm.. GA altitude or higher one set on FCU.. A/C speed above Vre.. Verify the rs/ersion.

B. DISCUSSION OF "STAI.IDARD RECO\ERY FROM INADVERTENT SEVERE WNDSHEAROR MICROBURST ENCOUNTER (END)

PNF task is firstly to confirm full power then to monitor performance and flight path. All information is available on PFD.Selection ol FPV allows flight path monitoring in conjunction with RadioAlitmeter.VSS is also indicated on PFD therefore attention is not distracted elsevvhere.

e. Do not change configuration - Do not raise gear or flaps. (Gear door drag - flapsdue increase in VS reducing energy trade).

' For a/c with windshear escape FD LOGIC folbw FD COMMAI,IDS.

l. PNF - Advise positive flight path (FPV above horizon and positive increase of radioheight) - PNF must wait to ensrre paramelers are slable and FPV indicationis not transient due lo pitch change.GPWS -DON'T SINK" or other warnings will cease - Confirmation of FlightPaih stability.

g. Mjusi pitch ahitude as necessary to regain correct IAS (VAPP + 10 or V2 + 10).

h. Be prepared for further encounters (microbursls exist in groups).

To teach recognition and recovery from windshear and microbursl encounters during take offand landing.

Familiarisation with aircraft handling at VSS and use of FPV to monitor flight path. Todemonstrate need for early recognition ol severe windshear/microburst encounter and theneed for good crew coordination to ensure safe recovery.

To overcome inslinctive reaction to low IAS i.e. reduction of pitch attitude to regain lAS.

02. BRIEFING

To revise eflect of windshear and microburst on lAS, litt, tlight path and pitch attitude, etc.Re^/ision of VSS indication, flighi trajectory, FPV, GS and TAS indications, Radio heightindications, and GPWS. Revise THB L, Alpha floor and Alpha trim.

o Rcognition of windshear : lAS, lift, pitch, Flight path, GS.. Parameters on $abilised approach.. Departures from slabilised approach that require immediate slandard recovery.

Bebw 500 ft, RA, inadvertant windshear encounter or other situations which resuh inuncontrolled changes from normal steady state flight conditions in excess of any of thelollowing :

. 15 kt indicated airspeed.o 500 f.p.m vertical speed.. 5o pitch attitude.r 1 dot displacement from the glideslope.o Unuglal throttle position for a significant period of time during approach.o F:loor operation below 500'.

NOTE : V/C tend combined with thrust lever position (AP in CMD) rull give the easiestinformation are concerning an entry into downburst or windshear.
