Fact Sheet

Mission Statement

Frederick Douglass High School Department of Athletics will provide an athletics program

founded on school pride, ownership, attitude, and respect (S.O.A.R). We pride ourselves in

always representing the Eagles with great sportsmanship. Our sports program focuses on

physical and mental development. Additionally, the department, ensure that all students

participating in the sports program meet all standards academically and athletically within the

parameters set by the operating principles of the MPSSAA and PGCAA.

Overview

Frederick Douglass High School (FDHS) is member of the Prince George’s County Athletic

Association with 21 other high schools, region 2A south. We are governed by the Maryland

Public Secondary School Athletic Association. The FDHS eagles compete in nine girl’s sports-

Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Softball, Indoor Track, and

Outdoor Track/Field. Boy’s sports compete in eight sports- Football, Soccer, Cross Country,

Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Baseball, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track/Field. In addition to

co-ed sports, Golf and corollary sports- Indoor Softball, Bocce and Track & Field.

Eligibility

As with any extracurricular activity in PG County all athletes must meet academic guidelines.

Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher to participate. Any final quarter grades prior to

or during the season determine a player's eligibility.

Facilities

Frederick Douglass High School is home to Eagles Nest basketball arena, which holds up to 852

people. The indoor sports venue also includes an exercise room and auxiliary gym. Located

outside of the facility is Eagles Football Stadium, which holds up to 947 people. Also, outside

are a track with field equipment, baseball, softball, and soccer field.
