What do you think was the strong impression received by those who attended Shalom’s annual concert, “Love Story on Wheels” last July? Do you know what is the unanimous comment that people make after visiting Shalom Disability Center? Although the expressions may vary, the overall mes-sage is that we are a “beautiful body of Christ.” This is what “Koinonia”is all about. “Koinonia” is indeed the ideal minis-try that Shalom is pursuing, and it is probably the life of saints

that God is most pleased with. I am not saying that our Ministries has accomplished a perfect koinonia. Even among ourselves, there are arguments, jealousy, anger, discouragements, sadness, and failures. However, even though there are times when we show our weakness in the flesh, we have the joy of res-toration through reconcilia-tion, forgiveness, and heal-ing. Because of this reason, our human weaknesses grow smaller, and as we transcend over them, we progress to-ward a more superior level of koinonia.

In the Bible dictionary, the Greek word “koinonia” is translated into English as the following: association, com-

munion, fellowship, close relationship, participation, sharing, brotherhood, society, generosity, fellowship-feeling, altruism, etc. As such, the word “koinonia” has a variety of meanings in the Bible.

The phrase we always hear during benediction towards the end of the worship service, “the fellowship of the Holy Spirit” (2 Cor. 13:13), is what “koinonia” is. If we are the children of God who are saved, “koinonia” (intimate relationship) with God the Holy Spirit must precede anything else. This is the

인 사역이요, 하나님께서도 가장 기뻐하시는 성도의 삶일 것입

주일예배 끝 부분에 축도시 “성령의 교통하심”(고후

13:13)이라는 단어를 항상 듣습니다만, 그것이 “코이노니

아” 입니다. 구원 받은 하나님의 자녀라면 먼저 성령 하나님

과의 코이노니아(깊은 관계)가 선행(先行)되어야 합니다. 이

것이 진정한 의미에서 코이노니아의 근본이요 시작입니다. 사

도 요한은 그의 첫 번째 서신서에서 기록 목적을 이렇게 밝히

source and the starting point of koinonia in the truest sense. Apostle John clarifies in his first epistle the purpose of his writ-ing. He says that he writes it so that his joy may be complete through his fellowship with the recipients which is with the Fa-ther and with His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3,4). And, as the passage continues regarding the deeds of a person who claims that he has fellowship with God, if he says he has fellowship with God and yet walks in darkness, he is a liar. On the other hand, if we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one an-other, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from our sin (vv. 5-6). In other words, if we do not have koinonia with God and the saints, it means that we are still in sin.

Unfortunately, these days we do not see true koinonia in many churches. When we visit certain churches, it seems like the members have a good relationship with God but not with each other. On the other hand, there are some churches where the members seem to have a good relationship with one another humanly speaking, but they seem to lack the spiritual aspect. Because the churches lack true “koinonia”, they are losing their vitality. The members fall into pride, having increased only their head knowledge through Bible study and other vari-ous programs. We even see extreme cases when some of them get tempted and deceived by a wrong sense of “koinonia” and fall into a cult.

God has wanted “koinonia” (fellowship) with us in the past, He wants it now, and He will continue to want it in the future. And, God wants us to have “koinonia” (fellowship) with other believers through our “koinonia” with Himself. Furthermore, He wants us to form a beautiful “koinonia” (unity) not only within our families but also in the society. It is because that is the right way to live our Christian life. A good example is the life of believers of the early church.

Our Ministries will continue to aim toward a more mature “koinonia.” At the same time, we will not be satisfied by just sending the wheelchairs and medical equipments to many

입니다(vv.5-6). 다시 말하면 하나님과 성도간에 코이노니아

가 없으면 우리가 여전히 죄 가운데 있다는 말씀입니다.

안타깝게도 오늘날 많은 교회 안에서 진정한 “코이노니

아”가 없는 것을 목격하게 됩니다. 어떤 교회에 가면 (성도들

이) 하나님과의 관계는 좋은 것 같은데 성도들 간의 관계는 별

로인 것을 보게 됩니다. 반면, 성도들 간 인격적인 관계는 너무

좋은데 영적인 부분이 결여된 것을 봅니다. 진정한 “코이노니

아”가 없다 보니 교회가 생명력을 잃어 갑니다. 말씀과 프로

그램을 통해 머리만 커진 성도들이 교만에 빠지고 심지어 잘

못된 코이노니아의 유혹에 넘어가 이단에 빠지는 극단적인 경

우도 보게 됩니다.

하나님은 예나 지금이나 그리고 앞으로도 우리와 “코이노

니아(사귐)”를 갖기 원하십니다. 또한 하나님과의 “코이노

니아”를 통해 우리가 다른 성도들과의 “코이노니아(사귐)”

“This Quiet time~ spent with Jesus~ In front of His throne~ I pour my heart out~Jesus knows it all, I have nothing to hide~”

This is a praise song that has not left my lips for months.I want to give thanks and praise to God for guiding us inti-

mately and slowing us to have a blessed and beautiful concert. We prepared and practiced for past several months to give praise to the Lord on stage and my heart is overwhelmed with the feel-ing that it was a concert of hope.

Many people’s prayers, love, gifts, and sacrifice were put to-gether to make this concert happen! Many more people attended this year than last to praise together and feel the joy together! Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your mist, A vic-torious warrior. He will exalt over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” Like this verse, I believe God received all the praises with joy.

We had tenor Wi Young Oh, who shared blessing with heart-felt praise, Rachael Bae who praised God’s grace brightly and with joy even with muscular dystrophy, Uangel Voice who flew in from Korea, Kyunggi high School Alumnae Choir who sang

모든 것 아시는 주님께 감출 것 없네~” 몇 달 동안 입에서 떠나지 않고 늘 불렀던 찬양입니다. 올해도 하나님이 친히 인도해 주셔서 은혜롭고 아름다운

음악회를 잘 마치게 됨을 감사드리고 찬양하며 하나님께 영광을 올려드립니다. 지난 몇 개월 동안 준비하고 연습하여 하나님의 무대에 찬양을 올려 드리며 소망의 음악회라는 마음이 들면서 가슴이 벅차 오름을 느꼈습니다.

많은 분들의 기도가 모아지고 사랑과 물질과 헌신이 모아진 음악회! 작년보다 많은 분들이 참석해 주셔서 함께 어우러져 찬양하며 기뻐한 순서의 시간들! 스바냐 3장17절 “너의 하나님 여호와가 너희 가운데 계시니 그는 구원을 베푸실 전능자시라 그가 너로 인하여 기쁨을 이기지 못하여 하시며 너를 잠잠히 사랑하시며 너로 인하여 즐거이 부르며 기뻐하시리라”고 하신 것처럼 하나님께서 모든 찬양을 기쁘게 받으셨으리라 믿습니다.

와 준 유엔젤보이스, 아름다운 하모니로 찬양을 부른 경기여고동문합창단과 손가락에 마음을 담아 사랑으로 찬양을 올려드린 남가주농아교회 수어찬양팀, 또 연습에 연습을 반복하며 발음은 어눌했지만 가슴으로 찬양을 올려드린 우리 SDM찬양팀, 너무 귀한 분들이 함께하여 더 의미가 있고 즐거운 음악회였음을 감사드립니다.

음악회는 하나님의 은혜 가운데 잘 마쳤지만 저희는 이제부터 하나님의 마음과 눈으로 주님의 손과 발이 되어 어려움과 절망 가운데 있는 세계의 장애인들을 섬기는 선교지와 선교사님들에게 주님의 심부름꾼으로 사명을 감당해야 하는 큰 일이 남아 있습니다. 해마다 섬기는 나라들도 있지만 하나님이 인도하시는 새로운 곳을 찾아 주님의 복음과 주님의 마음을 전달하는 일이 남아 있기에 저희는 더 무릎 꿇고 기도해야 합니다.

이번 음악회에 동참해 주신 모든 분들은 보내는 선교사로 샬롬의 동역자들입니다. 저희의 남은 사역도 하나님의 뜻이 온전히 이루어지고 그 일을 통해서 하나님의 영광만 나타나도록 함께 두 손 모아 기도로 동참해 주시길 부탁드리며 다시 한번 감사드립니다. 모든 후원자 여러분들, 내년에 다시 뵐 수 있기를 소망하며… 주님의 이름으로 사랑합니다!

beautiful harmony, sign language praise team from S. Cal. Deaf Church for the hearing-impaired, and SDM praise team that prac-ticed many times over who praised with awkward pronunciation but from the bottom of their heart. Such precious people joined together for a meaningful and joyful concert.

The concert was finished well, with God’s grace but now we are left with the task of being the Lord’s messenger to the mission field and the missionaries who are serving with heart and eyes of God as hands and feet for the disabled people of the world. There are some countries we serve every year but we are also looking for new places God is leading us to and share the gospel along with Jesus’ heart, so we must get down on our knees and pray.

Every single one of you who joined us for the concert are like missionary senders and Shalom’s partners. We thank you again and ask you to please put your hands together to pray for our re-maining ministry, for God’s will to be done perfectly and through the work God’s glory will be revealed. Dear all the supporters, I hope to see all of you again next year… I love you in the name of the Lord!
