Feast of Christ The King 24 Nov 2019

Jeremiah 23.1-6 After condemning Israel’s leaders for failing to provide care for God’s flock, a monarch is promised who will return Israelites from foreign lands and rule in peace and prosperity.

Colossians 1.11-20 The passage is a joyous affirmation of what Jesus Christ has done for humanity and declares that Jesus is the full revelation of God’s love and purpose for all of creation.

Luke 23.33-43 The Church year ends with the story of Jesus’ promise of eternal life to the repentant thief crucified alongside him. The reign of Christ is a gift to all who choose to be his subjects.

psalm 46(8am service)God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble; Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be moved, and though the mountains tremble in the heart of the sea;Though the waters rage and swell, and though the mountains quake at the towering seas. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place of the dwelling of the Most High.God is in the midst of her; therefore shall she not be removed; God shall help her at the break of day.The nations are in uproar and the kingdoms are shaken, but God utters his voice and the earth shall melt away. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.Come and behold the works of the Lord, what destruction he has wrought upon the earth. He makes wars to cease in all the world; he shatters the bow and snaps the spearand burns the chariots in the fire.‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations;I will be exalted in the earth.’The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. God of Jacob, when the earth shakes and the nations are in uproar, speak, and let the storm be still; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Junior Church Christmas initiative 2019 IMPORTANT UPDATE

Thank you the shoeboxes, wrapping paper and donations of items and money for both of our initiatives to date. We delivered 6 children’s boxes to Brighter Beginnings this week to go in the hampers for the Bromley and Croydon Women’s Aid Domestic Violence Refuge.

Achieving our aim to provide 12 boxes for Bromley Homeless Shelter is looking encouraging - we still need toiletries, underwear, socks, little nibbles, scarves, gloves and hats to give to those in the shelter over Christmas and into the New Year.

Our second charity, Bromley Children’s Project, helps disadvantaged families with children and our aim is to provide 10 to 12 boxes containing  toys, books, stationery, chocolate and sweets. We need a lot more items. Financial donations for either charity will be gratefully received as will wrapping paper to cover the boxes.

To deliver in time for Christmas, please bring in your donations before Sun 8th Dec immediately after the 9.30 a.m. Parish Eucharist.  We will need help on that day.

If you can take one or two shoeboxes home to wrap in Christmas paper in advance, please help yourself - at the back of the church. This will save time on the day. Many thanks. June Mackenzie

********************************************************************Bring and Share a Prayer An album with copies of the prayers brought and shared in August are now in the library corner. We hope to hold another series of prayer in the New Year.
