They say a short break is better

than no break at all. Well if this is

correct I won’t argue, but I must

say that it feels as if I have had

no break at all.

I thought that I had finally found

someone to take over the editing

of the Newsletter after doing it for

so long. However this was very

short lived, but it did give me a

break that was better than none

at all, and so; Here we go again.

Strictly speaking, I really don’t

mind, It gives me something to

do, fills in time, and keeps the

mind active. Which is a good

thing so I have been told.

The purpose of this newsletter is

to provide information to a

targeted audience, namely our

members. Newsletters can be a

great way to market a product, or

service such as ours, and also

create credibility, as well as build

our identity among peers, mem-

bers, and others who may be in-

terested in our society.

Hopefully your newsletter will do

this, so please send me articles

of interest to members, you may

like to let members know what

you are painting and possibly

why you are painting it.

Talking

of News-

letters,

there is

one that

all artists on the Gold Coast

should get. That is ‘The Gold

Coast Art News-Flash’ which Ray

Frisken goes to a lot of trouble to

edit. It will keep you up to date

with the art on the coast and com-

petitions you might like to enter.

If you would like to be on Ray’s

mailing list, just email him:-

[email protected]

As you enter the Peter Abra-

ham Studio Gallery, this ex-

hibition really strikes you.

June is shown here on the

left of the water-lilies. These

are her watercolour paint-

ings on silk which are some-

thing a little different to what

you see in other galleries.

Of course “The Silks” are

only a section of this fabu-

lous ‘Eclectic Collection’ of

June’s work.

Her ideas, and style, from a

broad and diverse range of

sources bring this exhibition

together, an exhibition that

must be seen.

Painting with oil and acrylic,

there is the ‘Land’ as well as

‘Seascapes’, ‘Figurative’,

’Modern and Abstract’, even

‘Animals’. This is truly an

Eclectic Collection of paintings.

Visit from Councillor Paul

Taylor …. From Page 1 …. Councillor Taylor and his staff joined us for a

morning tea (see front cover for photo) and we

had the opportunity to discuss some pressing

matters for the Society namely being the se-

curing of the lease so we can apply for grants

to obtain a lift. The domino effect of the lease

transfer situation has delayed the lift project

substantially but we hope early in the New

Year to be back on track. The Councillor was

most impressed with the art and had a tour of

the facility. The Committee will meet with him

early in the New Year so stay tuned for up-

dates!

Well ! Here we go Again -- Happy New Year

Do You Know Your Committee Members ?

move from the tin shed we were

in years ago and into this building

we are in now.

There are many ways to raise

money apart from various Grants.

The problem with a Society such

as ours is, most of our members

have retired from their work and

so normal income does not ap-

ply.

I know of a Sporting Club that

wanted to expand their premises

and so members were sent a let-

ter telling them that the club

needed $100 from them for the

expansion .

Their name would be inscribed

on a brick inside wall and with

the club having so many mem-

bers their target was easily

reached. If I can remember cor-

rectly there were different size

bricks for larger amounts.

Now that was a nice story, good

for them. HOWEVER . . . . We

will get our lift (thisyear). ? ?

The lift is all GO, Yes it’s true.

After years of work by your com-

mittee’s it is gradually coming

together. Now don’t get over

excited because it’s not going to

happen tomorrow, or next month,

but I’m going to stick my neck out

and say that we will have a lift

operating in 2017 (we hope).

Of course we need money to do

this. This is not a small project at

all, actually it would have to be

the biggest project since our

As a not-for-profit society we are required to fundraise from time to time and the Committee thought, why not kill two birds with one stone and fundraise with coffee? So we are placing a coffee POD machine upstairs for your enjoyment. So for the low

cost of just a gold coin per POD. Yummy coffee and a contribution to our next big project or event!

== If you do not know how to use

the machine please read the instructions, ask a friendly Tutor,

or a Committee member! There will be an ‘Honour Box’.

AFteR ThE pArtY having the Christmas party at the gallery, gives out a great atmos-phere. Admittedly it is more work to get it set up and then pack it all back up after-wards, but it’s a

labor of love ? ? The main thing is that many hands make light work. The photo left is Leanne Manns, our Artistic Direc-tor, with one of our long standing

members, Lynette Melsom. Above is a lot of very happy members enjoying themselves. These photos were taken by Gabrielle Vining. I’m sure she has many more.

== Spits-N-Pieces who were the caterers were very happy with the way we had things set up. They said there was no confu-sion with being served our din-ner, and wish our members a Merry Christmas and hope to see us next year.

Now that the recovery period has taken place I am able to say with reasonable certainty that the Christmas party was a great suc-cess. Everyone enjoyed them-selves, I feel sure of that and Santa had a huge welcome when he appeared. I’m not sure where he came from but it certainly was-n’t down any chimney. There is no doubt about it. There may be some who would rather go to a hired venue, but
