"What is God Calling You to Do?” Epiphany - "Deep Water Calling"

Song Leaders Ken Lehmker/Kristel Lehmker Prelude Music: "As Stone On Living Stone is Set" by Kevin Hildebrand Welcome & Announcements leader: PA & PR ******INTRODUCE NEW COMMUNICATION CARDS******* *****Ask Congregation to write out what they think about their prayer life.***** *****Announce Prayer series and mention merchandise table***** $10 for the 40 Days of Prayer Workbook (in depth study, follows along with video) $5 for the 40 Days of Prayer Verse Ring (a verse for everyday) *** ****Voters Meeting Today at 9:30am****** Opening Hymn Title: Jesus on the Mountain Peak Number: LSB 415 Stanzas: 1, 2, 3 Jesus on the mountain peak stands alone in glory blazing; Let us, if we dare to speak, Join the saints and angels praising. Alleluia! Trembling at His feet we saw Moses and Elijah speaking. All the prophets and the law Shout through them their joyful greeting: Alleluia! Swift the cloud of glory came: God proclaiming in its thunder Jesus as the Son by name! Nations, cry aloud in wonder, Alleluia! Invocation and Call to Worship leader: PR LEADER: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, PEOPLE: Amen. LEADER: On this Transfiguration Day, we are invited by Jesus to join Peter, James, and John ascending the mountain. There we behold the Lord revealed in the brightness of the glory of God with Moses (standing for the Law) and Elijah (standing for the Prophets). Here, as we turn toward the Lord Jesus, the veil of blindness is removed. By His presence and Gospel, “we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being trans-formed into the same image from one degree of glory to another” (2 Corinthians 3:18). As you meet Jesus in worship today, what is your EPIPHANY, your 'aha' moment? What is God calling YOU to do? LEADER: From Psalm 50, Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, PEOPLE: God shines forth. LEADER: Our God comes; PEOPLE: He does not keep silent. LEADER: The heavens declare His righteousness, PEOPLE: For God Himself is judge! Confession and Forgiveness Leader: PR LEADER: Let us confess our sins to the Lord.

PEOPLE: O almighty God, merciful Father, I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being. (Silence for reflection.) LEADER: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. PEOPLE: Amen. Sharing the peace Leader: PR "Peace be with you" Hymn of Praise "O God of God, O Light of Light" LSB 810 st. 1, 4 O God of God, O Light of Light, O Prince of Peace and King of kings: To You in heaven’s glory bright The song of praise forever rings. To Him who sits upon the throne, The Lamb once slain but raised again, Be all the glory He has won, All thanks and praise! Amen, amen. Then raise to Christ a mighty song, And shout His name, His mercies tell! Sing, heav’nly host, your praise prolong, And all on earth, your anthem swell! All hail, O Lamb for sinners slain! Forever let the song ascend! Worthy the Lamb, enthroned to reign, All glory, pow’r! Amen, amen. Old Testament Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-12 ESV pp. 307-308 Reader: Rachel Bedford [1] Now when the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. [2] And Elijah said to Elisha, "Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel." But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel. [3] And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, "Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?" And he said, "Yes, I know it; keep

quiet." [4] Elijah said to him, "Elisha, please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Jeri-cho." But he said, "As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they came to Jericho. [5] The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Eli-sha and said to him, "Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?" And he answered, "Yes, I know it; keep quiet." [6] Then Elijah said to him,

"Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan." But he said, "As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So the two of them went on. [7] Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. [8] Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground. [9] When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you." And Elisha said, "Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me." [10] And he said, "You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you

see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so." [11] And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. [12] And Elisha saw it and he cried, "My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. ...This is the Word of the Lord. PEOPLE: Thanks be to God. Epistle Text: 2 Corinthians 3:12-18 ESV p. 965 Reader: Rachel Bedford [12] Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, [13] not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. [14] But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. [15] Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. [16] But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. [17] Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. [18] And we all, with unveiled face, be-holding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit...This is the Word of the Lord. PEOPLE: Thanks be to God. Holy Gospel Text: Mark 9:2-9 ESV p. 844 Reader: PR [2] And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, [3] and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. [4] And there ap-peared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. [5] And Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah." [6] For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. [7] And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my be-loved Son; listen to him." [8] And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone

with them but Jesus only. [9] And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. ...This is the Gospel of the Lord. PEOPLE: Praise to You, O Christ. Children's Church leader: NM Hymn of the Day Title: "Tis Good, Lord, to Be Here" Number: LSB 414 Stanzas:1, 2, 3 ‘Tis good, Lord, to be here! Thy glory fills the night; Thy face and garments, like the sun, shine with unborrowed light. ‘Tis good, Lord, to be here, Thy beauty to behold Where Moses and Elijah stand, Thy messengers of old. Fulfiller of the past and hope of things to be, We hail Thy body glorified and our redemption see.

Sermon Preacher: PA Title: Text: Hymn of Response Title: "Tis Good, Lord, to Be Here" Number: LSB 414 Stanzas: 4, 5 Before we taste of death, we see Thy kingdom come; We long to hold the vision bright and make this hill our home. ‘Tis good, Lord, to be here! Yet we may not remain; But since Thou bidst us leave the mount, come with us to the plain. Confession of Faith: Apostle's Creed Leader: ALL: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. come to church, we are asking members & guests to fill out

a card and place it in the offering plate. The purpose of

these cards is to track attendance, receive prayer requests,

connect you to what interests you and receive contact

changes. (Please note that we are no longer tracking when you take communion.)
