Fwould give His own lovely Son, for man that

is so unlovable, is beyond comprehension.

But, thank God when Jesus was dying on

the cross, He looked out across time and saw

you and me and knew that we would needa Savior. When, He was on the cross, we

was on his mind. He was sent to earth to

complete salvations plan, so that we through

faith in Him could be saved. Again, I say,

What Love. This is abiding love.

The love that the Father had for us is to be

carried on through the lives of those that

    believe and trust in Him.

Is the love of the Father revealed in us? Dowe really try to project this love? Does the

world see Christ in the life that we live?

    Paul tells us in I Corinthians 13. . . . if I

have not love, I am become as sounding

brass, or a tinkling cymbal.and now

abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but

the greatest of these is love.

    Please read again the 13th

    chapter of I Corinthians

and let it apply to your

    life.

    ebruary is the love month.

    How exciting to see the

    flowers, hearts, bows and

    arrows and of course Cupid.

It is a time for sweetheartbanquets; married couples renew their

vows and reminisce of days gone by

counting the blessings God has given

    them. Remembering the good times

and the not-so-good times but knowing

that the Lord was with them through it

    all.

However, in thinking of love, we need

to remember the greatest love of all; that

is God gave His Son so that we throughfaith in Him, could have eternal life.

STOP and THINK for a momentcan

you imagine such love as the Father

had for us; He gave His only begotten

Son. For God so loved the world, that

He gave His only begotten Son, that

whosoever believeth in Him should not

perish, but have everlasting Life. John

3:16. What Love! To think that God

    Ive discovered watching someone

elses quest for the bottom of the

barrel is almost as painful as my

own journey was. I say almost

    because I purposely remind

myself how horrible my life had

become by remembering everydirty detail of my descent. Our

minds have a remarkable ability to

be fooled by satan into forgetting

    how unmanageable our lives had

become and we unwisely drift in

the direction of the quagmire that

    is our addiction.

At least once a week one of the

    men in our NewLife Recovery

program enters my office, havingbeen convinced by satan that they

are ready and able to take on the

    world, and announces they are

leaving the program. Out of the

    hundreds of men Ive witnessed

    leave the NewLife program early

Ive yet to see a single instance

where it turned out good. You dont

have to be a prophet to predict their

    return in far worse condition.

I do not possess the verbal skillsto convey how devastating it is to

    see someone with such potential

walk away from the only hope

they have. The hope I speak of is

    a close personal relationship with

    our Lord and Savior.

The pattern is transparent. Theperson leaves believing they can

    handle whatever the world throws

their way. In fact they usually do

well for a short time. They are able

to resist the temptations long enough

to bolster their confidence in their

    own strength. Then compromise

enters the equation. At first they

    are small, seemingly innocent,

    compromises. Ill just have one

beer and then go home. Believeit or not this is actually possible

for a short time. Unfortunately that

one beer is compromised into two,

then three and before you know it

your sitting in the crack house with

nothing to show for your life but

    despair, self-loathing, and pain.

The sad reality is; although the

bottom of the barrel has been

found we have to flounder in itfor some time before we are able

to overcome our pride and admit

we made yet another mistake. Like

    Israels forty year trek through

the wilderness they are right back

where they began, in this case at

the Mission seeking help for a

    broken life.

As long as we continue to allow

our worth and self-esteem to bedetermined by what we do and

what others think of us, and not

by who we are in Christ, we will

    continue to meander aimlessly in

    the wilderness where the bottom

    of the barrel awaits us.

    Finding The Bottom

    Of The Barrel

    They are able to

    resist the temptationslong enough

    to bolster their

    confidence in their

    own strength.

    The Greatest of These is . . . .L O V E

This world is filled with sorrows

    that captivate us all.

    At any given moment,

    anyone can fall.

By faith we break our daily bread,

with hope that God will bless. We say our prayers and go to bed,

    in seasons of distress.

    We can endure most anything

    if only there is love.

For love restores our faith and hope

    that God still reigns above.

    Love gives us strength

    when we are weak,

    and courage when afraid.

Love celebrates our victoriesand sacrifices made.

    Hope and faith go hand-in-hand

    like fingers in a glove.

But greater still is Gods great gift

    of His unfailing love.
