This 50’ standard box car with plug door and no roofwalk has yellow sides, black ends and an aluminum roof. It bears blue and white lettering and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks. Napierville Junction Railway was the corporate arm of the Delaware & Hudson Railway in Canada. It operated some 28 miles of line between the U.S. border at Rouses Point, N.Y. and a junction with the CP and CN at St. Constant, Quebec, 20 miles southwest of Montreal. This red 50’ gondola with fishbelly sides and drop ends displays large, white “Burlington” letters, white stenciling and the “Burlington Route” herald. It exhibits white lettering and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks. Last shopped in July 1959, this gondola was one of 200 built in 1955. From Lake Michigan to the Rockies, and from Montana to the Gulf of Mexico, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and its subsidiaries operated 12,000 miles of track in 14 states.

This 50’ standard box car with single Superior door is car #10 of a series representing each of the Canadian provinces and territories. It displays the Great Grey Owl and Prairie Crocus flower, Manitoba’s official provincial bird and flower. The flag of the Province of Manitoba is in the background. The road number 1870 represents the year the “Glorious and Free” province joined the Confederation.

This 40’ standard box car with single Superior door is painted blue with white stenciling, white and red “PHD” herald, and white “St. Clair Blue Water Route” lettering. It runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Originally built in October 1947, this box car was rebuilt by the U.S. Railway Equipment Company in February 1966.

Colorado & SouthernRoad Numbers C&S 4517

This 30’ gondola is painted box car red with white Colorado & Southern herald and lettering. It was built in 1910 and serviced in April 1937. It runs on Bettendorf trucks. Commonly called coal cars, these cars were actually used for hauling ore, scrap iron, lumber and ballast, in addition to coal. The series 4498-4547 was the first group of steel framed gondolas built by C&S. Many of these gondolas were later converted to flat cars.

Built in May of 1955 by Electro Motive Division of General Motors, these locos wear the second scheme for Denver Rio Grande Western. The D&RGW purchased Southern Pacific in 1988 and took their name. In 1996 the cmobined company was sold to Union Pacific.

These green 50’ standard box cars, with double doors, white lettering and logos, run on black Bettendorf trucks. Built by ACF in December 1950, these car are two of 25 cars picked from the GM&O series 9000-9199 and upgraded at the railroad’s Frascati Shops to AAR “XL” classification. Upgrading included Evans DF-2 belt rails, 90 lading band anchors and new green paint.

These 50’ rib-side box cars with plug door have white sides, black ends and aluminum roofs. They sport green “CV” logos, green and white lettering, run on black roller bearing trucks. Built by Berwick Forge & Fabricating in August 1974, these cars are two of 200 built for the CV. Most of the series were painted in standard box car red with white lettering, but the final five cars of the series 50095-50099 were painted with white sides, black ends and green lettering. This paint scheme may have marked these cars for newsprint service, a common load for cars in service to the CV at this time.

These 40’ standard box cars with single Youngstown door and roofwalk are painted box car red with white herald and lettering. They were built in March 1961 by Pullman Standard and runs on Bettendorf trucks. The tilted rectangular logo has long been Milwaukee Road’s identifying mark, even though the wording within the herald has changed throughout the years.
