SHOOTING STARS AT THE SHOPS AT WAILEA
Chrishell Strause, of the long-running daytime soap “All My Children,” stopped by Célébrités Gallery of Celebrity Fine Art to ink a deal with co-owner Gerard Marti. The pair will collaborate on a new collection of art mixing painting and writing. Of Strause, Marti says, “She’s an amazing writer, and her poetry is inspirational.” A por-tion of the proceeds generated by the artwork will go to charity.
Other recent visitors to gallery include Tom Morello of the bands Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine. The Grammy Award-winning guitarist picked up a paint-ed portrait of friend and fellow guitarist Slash, painted by yet another guitar icon, Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones.
The Art of Peter Max Gallery will host two high-profile visits in early February.
February 9: Artist Peter Max will present Governor Neil Abercrombie with an original painting of the Hawai‘i state flag at 1pm. The event is open to the public.
February 11: The gallery will host its official grand open-ing celebration with the renowned artist himself (1-3pm). Max will also unveil a new collection of original paintings created specially for his Maui gallery. The event is open to the public.

Is it already 2012? It really is amazing how quickly time goes by. When I touched down in September 2009 the economy was a little shaky, I was the older new kid on the block and I knew immediately I had struck gold, with the merchants, the center, the area and the island. Somehow we finished 2009 like a lion instead of a lamb.
2010 continued to improve and finished well ahead of 2009. 2011 started strong, had a bit of an ebb and tide and finished strong and ahead of 2010.
2012? So far, so good, and I suspect we’ll crush 2011.
The mildly unfamiliar phrases above? This is a greet-ing in order of my ethnic makeup. The first manager to contact me and correctly identify the greeting and country of origin gets lunch!

PASSMAN LUNA COLLECTION
Passman recently introduced its new Luna collection, featuring the marriage of black coral and tagua, a natural material, which resembles ivory but is actually harvest-ed from the dried seedpod of the tagua palm.
According to the designer, the name of the collection pays homage to the greater galaxy, and the materials used are a meta-phor; black coral as a night sky and tagua as moons, near and far, coming in and out of a space that represents our world.
