ALOHA TO THE MAX: NEW GALLERY JOINS THE ‘OHANA
The Shops at Wailea is proud to welcome the newest member
of our merchant ‘ohana, The Art of Peter Max Gallery, now
open in unit A38 between Dolphin Galleries and Century 21 All
Islands.
The gallery is one of only two in the world exclusively dedicated to the artwork of renowned artist, Peter Max, and is curated by the artist himself.
In celebration of the opening, Peter Max has created a new instal-lation of original acrylic paintings being unveiled at the Wailea gallery. The collection includes the artist’s “Maui Series” which depicts scenic images of Maui wrapped in the kaleidoscope of vivid colors that are unmistakably Peter Max. This rare series is available exclusively at The Shops at Wailea.
Over a career spanning five decades, Peter Max and his vibrant colors have become part of the fabric of contemporary culture. The artist has painted for Heads of State, including six U.S. Presi-dents, as well as countless celebrities and music icons. From art that appeared on the first U.S. 10-cent stamp bearing the title “Preserve the Environment,” to 235 U.S. Border murals greeting millions of people entering America each year, and now including his new “Maui Series,” Peter Max’s art has captured themes of America at its finest. LETTER FROM THE G.M.
What do you get when you mix Megan Fox, Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund, Andrew Garfield, Taste of Wailea, Taste of Chocolate, Starry Night Moondance at Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, parties at Mala and Capische?, numerous film makers’ panels and five nights of taking in more than 20 films under the stars?
Perfection.
For the 11th year, Wailea hosted the finest film festival this side of Sundance. The weather, the food, the films, the stars (both on the ground and interplanetary) and the fun were in full form again. My favorite film was a short called “Hello Caller” and we’ll leave it at that.
The Maui Film Festival is an undertaking of epic proportions requiring tremendous time and energy, and legions of volunteers. Festival creator and director Barry Rivers and his very talented team deserve a big “aloha” from us all. Additionally Kathy Costello, Director of Marketing for the Wailea Resort Association, gets a huge “mahalo” for her tireless efforts in coordinating and keeping all of us informed. This event is very important in promoting Wailea and I believe the entire resort community did an exemplary job as host. If you missed your chance to experience this world-class event, don’t worry. The 2012 event is only 11 months away.

MEET THE CHIEF
Chief Palota Taamu and the Polynesian Village performers are again part of this month’s WOW lineup. If you haven’t yet met the chief (who also goes by Chief FiaFia, or “Happy Chief”), say aloha. Each WOW performance offers guests a taste of what they get when attending at the full Polynesian Village Lu‘au in Kihei. While the lu‘au itself is fairly new, Chief and his team of musicians and performers have entertained on Maui for more than three decades. PolynesianVillageLuau.com . 661-6887
