Antique CaravanWell it won’t be long now before you will start seeing the Antique Caravan, grown men, some squeezed into replica TinLizie’s, driving in circles, delighting children along the parade route and giving their parents a chuckle. Being the firstmotorized unit in our Shrine parades, I often hear “look at the cars, how do they fit in them, I want one…wow he isold”….I just wonder if they really know what we do…I wish we had the time to tell each one of them: The Shriners are acharitable organization born out of the Freemasons. With almost 200 temples around the world and 300,000 members, thisfraternity is “based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth”. We all know our hospitals treat childrenin need free of charge…..but do they? However serious we are about fundraising and medical care for children, a big part of the Shriners’philosophy is still about fun. Syrian Shrines history is filled with silly antics and camaraderie since 1877. The Antique caravan starts 96 yearslater in 1973 and is the oldest motorized unit in Syrian Shrine. We have cars, and they are loaned to you at no-charge…so if you are looking fora family-oriented unit, find a Caravan member and start a conversation. Gray

Classic ChariotsHappy New Year to all. It’s been a few months since we’ve met or put an article out. We were meeting on Thursday night, but it might be betterto try doing meetings on a weekend day, but we need YOUR input. If you have a 20 year old (or older) vehicle and want to participate pleasereach out to me (Chuck Jeffers) at 513-884-3172 or [email protected] with your contact information and we’ll try this one more time. This club would be able to participate in parades. This could be a fun club to be involved in. People say we need more opportunities for familyinvolvement and I feel this would be a great start. Thanks Chuck Jeffers

The Legion of HonorThe Legion of Honor is looking for new members – if you are a veteran (of any war), we want you. Our current membershipis aging…. we need new blood. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month at Syrian Shrine in Evendale. Beginning withour January 22nd meeting, thru our March meeting, we will have our lunch at 12:00 Noon with the meeting immediatelyfollowing (some of our members don’t drive at night). This will also allow those who work to come out during their lunchperiod. In April we will resume our 7:00 o’clock schedule. Ladies are also invited! We have a large trailer that willaccommodate ALL of our members and we participate in the parades designated by the Potentate. Our unit is also readyto post colors in meetings and other events as requested. And, of course, our members are great supporters of the PaperCrusade (our members get out and collect more money than other units). Come out and get acquainted with your fellowveterans. Remember, it’s an honor to belong to the Legion of Honor. Call Jim Beattie, Past Commander, if you have anyquestions at (513) 860-3715.

Let’s all do our part in answering the call of our ILL.Sir Tim Redrow, “Sharing the Dream in 19.” I would at this time like to thank our past chairman, Al Tucker and his wonderful lady, Joy for alltheir accomplishments during the past few years. Believe me when I say I have some really big shoes to fill. I want to remind all nobles thateach of you are the membership committee. Mini RacersWe would like to say a great big “Thank you” to Illustrious Greg Pelfrey for having led us through a great 2018. And “Welcome”, with bestwishes to Illustrious Tim Redrow and First Lady Linda for 2019. ‘It’s that time of year when all the Mini-Racers begin their rigorous diet andexercise programs, following a joyous holiday season, crawling off the couch since the football games are over. The ham, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie have all settled (in the wrong places) and we’re trying to get back down to size where we can fit in our cars.Everyone is using this “slow” time of year to overhaul cars in preparation of the upcoming parade season. Remember, just around the corner, ourDaytona party is February 17, 2019 and parade season starts with the St. Patrick’s Day parade March 16th A couple of our main goals for theupcoming year is to have an increase in membership and participation. So, we invite anyone looking for a great unit to have fun with in an activeor supportive role, please contact us. God bless the divan, nobles and all our families.Mike Miles, Director, Syrian Mini-Racers
