The Board of Community Guardians

Compassionate persons are being sought to serve as volunteers on a board that helps individuals unable to advocate for themselves.

Three local counties, Gooding, Jerome and Lincoln, have joined together to form a Board of Community Guardians to have those in need declared as wards of the court.

The Board of Community Guardians pro-vides assistance to adult citizens who are no longer able to care for themselves. Wards under our guardianship cannot make or communicate responsible deci-sions, or provide for their basic needs such as food, clothing, health care and safety. The role of the community guardi-ans is to ensure these vulnerable adults are protected from exploitation, abuse and neglect.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Board of Community Guardians or having concerns about someone who may need a guardian, please contact the Program Coordinator at 208-644-2708. Or come by the office at 300 North Lincoln Room 201 at the Jerome County Courthouse.

Another beautiful month has passed in

beautiful Hagerman Idaho. A few of the

things that are happening this month are:

1) Justin has been working hard on a cou-

ple of grants for revitalization projects.

He has already received $100,000 grant

for the Spring Street paving project.

2) The “J-Team” (Justin, Jordan and Josh)

have been working hard and diligently on

the streets. Filling potholes, cracks and on

some of the dirt roads washboard have

been filled with gravel. If you know fo any

that may have been missed or have con-

cerns, give us a call at City Hall (208-837-

6636). Your input will be appreciated.

3) The animal control officer would like to

ask everybody that has a dog to pay atten-

tion to the codes. There have been a lot

of issues lately.

4) The deadline to have your dog licensed

has passed! The license fee is $5 for a

spayed or neutered dog, and $10 for a

non-spayed or non-neutered dog. A late

charge will be assessed after February

28th and the license fees will double. This

helps ensure all animals are vaccinated for

rabies and do not pose a health issue to

any humans or other animals.

I would like to thank the Hagerman Bike

and Walk committee for working so hard

on the local pathways. They have more

pathways coming your way this year, so

let’s support them. On February 6th, the

Hagerman Bike and Walk committee will

be at City Hall to inform and discuss plans

fo the future. Please come at 7pm with

your ideas and support them.

HAGERMAN FIRE DISTRICT

With the holidays behind us we can start look-

ing forward to springtime. In the upcoming

months our focus will be to get prepared for

the upcoming wildland fire season with train-

ing and equipment preparation.

With use and age equipment does wear out,

we have two AED/heart monitors in service in

our EMS Division. We have had them in service

for over 15 years, at the time of purchase the

cost was $10,000 each. We have been having

some operational problems with both units,

one gives more problems than the other. The

manufacture no longer supports these units

with parts and repair due to the age of the

units. The District will be replacing one of the

units for the cost of $35,000. This money was

budgeted out of capital outlay in this years

budget. We hope to pursue funding for the

replacement of the other unit next year with a

possible grant application.

We are making grant applications this year for

the assistance in replacing a Wildland Engine,

10 SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus),

and a generator to run the entire fire station

during power outages. Currently our commu-

nity has no public facility that has a generator

in place to run the facility during emergencies.

The firefighter/EMT Annual Chile Cookoff will

be on Feb 22nd

, please come out and support

your volunteers.

GOODING COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

RECEIVES GRANT AWARD FROM IDAHO HERITAGE TRUST

In November 2019, the Idaho Heritage Trust (IHT) Board of Trus-

tees awarded the Gooding County Historical Society up to $2,628

for scanning and digitizing the 1912-1970 Wendell Irrigationist

newspaper collection. More than half of IHT’s annual grants are

awarded to rural communities with populations of 5,000 or

fewer. Digitizing before the originals deteriorate beyond handling condition

allows the data to be accessed and utilized electronically by the public from the

Society’s computers, an external backup drive in the Society’s Museum, and on

the Society’s website https://goodingcountyhistoricalsociety.shutterfly.com.

These will be added to those City of Gooding newspapers that were previously

scanned into digital format. The Society plans to acquire digitized versions of

all available hard copies of other historical Gooding County newspapers, as

funds are available.

The Gooding County Historical Society can be reached at

208-934-5318. Learn more about IHT at idahoheritage.org.
