To stay informed of your child’s grades before receiving a progress note, there is a wonderful tool for you to monitor your child’s grades online called the Aspen Parent Portal. You can view your child’s grades and set up triggers in case a grade drops below a certain percentage. It is a way to keep track of the work assigned and their progress throughout the year. If you do not have a parent account, please reach out to Mr. Ravury via the school website teacher contact page and he will provide you with your child’s PIN number to create your account. Thank you to all of the parents and caregivers dropping off and picking up your children in a safe and friendly manner throughout the cold and snow! I’d like to give a big shout out to all parents who help on Oak Park and Rutherford Avenues. I beg you to please be cautious and considerate while picking up your children. Follow the school driving pattern plan in place for the safety of all! Only head in the driving direction of the traffic in the morning (southbound on Rutherford and northbound on Oak Park) and please do not park in crosswalks or double park and leave your vehicle to drop off or pick up your child(ren). We must all work together to make drop off and pick up safe!! This month for the Principal Tea we will be discussing the Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP). Every two years, Chicago Public Schools rewrite their school improvement plan after reviewing data and holding quality conversations with school stakeholders. This school improvement plan is continuous in nature and is always changing to accommodate the needs of the school. This meeting will focus on parent feedback on the school excellence framework and what parents prioritize. The Principal Tea will take place at 3:45 P.M. in the fish bowl on Tuesday, February 25th. Later this month we will hold our school Student Council 7th/8th grade Valentine’s Day Dance. Let’s keep our attendance up so that your child can participate in all of these fun activities! With cold and flu season running rampant, please wash your hands often and get enough rest daily. Congratulations to Mrs. Dzierzanowski and her family as they welcomed their new baby boy, Krystian Dzierzanowski, into the world on January 16th! Mrs. Colon began her leave at the end of January and we are happy to have Ms. Elizabeth Hetland as our Physical Education instructor. Please join us at our next LSC Meeting on February 19th at 5:00 P.M. in Room 209. LSC board positions are up for reelection this school year. thank all the donors for helping make these grants possible.

Dear GARVY GOOD NEWS Family,

We are happy to announce that your children's GOOD NEWS CLUB, which was enjoyed so much last semester, will be RESUMING AGAIN on February 3rd. We will meet on Mondays right after

school in Room 104 from 3:30-4:30p.m. The program runs from Monday, February 3rd to Monday, March 30th.

The children will have great fun as they learn from the Bible, grow in character, win prizes, and enjoy snacks. We certainly invite parents to visit and join in. The program is free, simply drop off the registration form at the main office BEFORE February 3rd or bring it with you to club. There is

no need to re-register if your child attended club last semester. Extra registration forms are available in Garvy’s main office.

JOHN W. GARVY FEBRUARY 2020

2nd Semester is here!

Half of the school year is behind us. Spring will be upon us before we know it. Thank you to the parents who attended the

January Principal Tea. I presented information regarding the CPS Anti-Bullying Policy. I asked Ms. Chron if I could share

this important information with our school community because it is imperative that all stakeholders play a large part in

eliminating all bullying behaviors at Garvy. Please take a look at the presentation and let me know if you have any

questions or concerns. Here is the CPS Anti-Bullying Policy Presentation as well as a resource showing the difference

between peer conflict and bullying.

Thank you for the continued support.

A couple of reminders: Report cards will be sent home on February 7th. Please review your child’s grades. If you have questions, please

see his or her teachers. If your child is missing any articles of clothing, please check the lost and found area. We will clean this area once

per month and make a donation to a local shelter. There are a number of hooded sweatshirts, hats, gloves, boots, and mittens. This is also a great opportunity to remind everyone to write your child’s initials on their belongings. This will aid in the recovery of student’s items.

Every day, we have recess outside unless the wind chill is below 20 degrees or there is precipitation. So please dress your child appropiately for the weather. Boots should be worn if it snows and students are to bring a change of shoes to be worn in the building. Shorts cannot be worn to school again until April 15th.

Students are asked to leave the school grounds at dismissal time, if you are not accompanied by an adult. Supervision by school personnel ends at 3:30pm.

OUTDOOR RECESS

Bundle Up! Our schedule includes approximately 25 minutes of recess for all students in

grades K-8. We will continue to venture outside for this time, so we are asking that

students be prepared for the winter elements by wearing boots, hats, gloves, and scarves

to brave the weather.

We monitor the weather and will send students out if temperature and

wind chill (feels like temps) are 20 degrees and higher. It is highly

recommended that younger students (Grades K-1) have a change of

clothes available in their lockers If you have not sent clothes to school,

please do so.
