It was helpful to receive this information about the school I am working at. My cooperating teacher referred me to Garvy’s Illinois School Report Card ( which can be found at http://research.cps.k12.il.us/cps/accountweb/). This report card was very useful in finding out information about the demographics of my students.
Since most of the children in the school are white I believe that we need to explore diversity in the curriculum. The children need to learn about people from all different cultures. This will be useful when they go to high school and college and realize that everybody isn’t white.
The school has many extra activities for the children to do after school. This is a good way to keep the children active. This information helps me because I know that the kids that participate in these activities may feel more of a sense of school pride. Having pride in your school has a positive effect on your learning.
