Dinner By The Sea: Special Valentine’s Day Menu

  • Veteran’s Corner

Great News for the start of 2020! We have applied for and received a $2,000 Spotlight Grant from the ENF! The money will be utilized to assist veterans who are overcoming homelessness. Partnering with the Columbus House we will allocate 100% of the $2,000.00 to purchase household items to support veterans through the Welcome Home Project. Initial purchases will commence on February 1, 2020. We are very grateful to have received this funding and express our appreciation to the ENF.

Our Veteran Committee members have distributed over two hundred cases of cookies to facilities serving veterans throughout the State of Connecticut. We are thankful to the Girl Scouts of Connecticut for donating thousands of cases yearly for distribution among our Connecticut military men and women.

Five of our committee members participated in a military funeral on Jan. 3rd and 4th. We offered our condolences to the family and continue to honor our departed veteran for his service. Save the Date! March 14th will be our next Westbrook Elks Lodge Veterans Luncheon. Additional event information will be shared in early February.

The Elks Veteran Committee is dedicated to serving our veterans; If you are interested in learning more about our committee, or assisting with our next event, please contact Jenell at [email protected] or 860.301.9173.

    Respectfully submitted by, Ivette Garcia-Linares

In 2019-2020, the Elks National Foundation will award $4.1 million in college scholarships, ensuring

a bright future for our nation’s youth. Each Legacy Awards recipient will receive a $4,000 scholarship distributed over the course of their college career. Legacy Awards scholars are required to serve with the Elks once per year. Legacy scholars can get involved by rebounding at a Hoop Shoot contest, assisting with Lodge-run projects or Community Investments Program grant projects. The chances for Legacy scholars to serve with their community and learn about the Elks are endless. For more information about our scholarship programs, and for ways Lodges can get involved with Elks scholars, visit elks.org/scholars.
