Talent What Are My Talents We are often held back from recognizing or sharing our gifts because of a narrow definition of talent We think talented people are extraordinary achievers or have easily identifiable gifts such as musical ability or artistic talent We must remem-ber that each one of us was created by God and was given the ability to serve God and each other in some way ldquoThere are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit there are different forms of service but the same Lord there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefitrdquo

~ 1 Corinthians 124-7 Talents include being a good listener being able to organize people relating well to children or teens being patient with others and numerous other less-recognized gifts Our gifts often change during our lives in our youth our gift may be en-ergy when were older it is knowledge We are each one-of-a-kind creations of God with unique contributions to make in this world As Christians we recognize that our gifts of talents and skills are meant to be cultivated and shared with others beginning with our family and friends with our parish community and with the world Part of being an active member of our parish is to find your niche ndash the ministry where your personal talents can best be put to use Sharing the gift of ourselves is how we express our gratitude for being created as a unique and gifted people

GROWING IN FAITH

Our Lenten Journeymdash2016

Talentmdash

Can you share an hour each week

Will you show God gratitude for His mercy by sharing your talents to better the lives of others

To SERVE means to look at your talents and gifts and use them for others

To SERVE means to welcome people with care It means to bend down to one in need and to extend your hand without reservations without fear amp with the same tenderness and understanding that Jesus demonstrated when he bent down to wash the feet of his apostles To serve means to work alongside those most in need A regular life of service (using our talents) might

mean going on a Mission of Mercy

Spend a day as a family or organize some friends to help at a food pantry soup kitchen or homeless shelter Local missions always need extra volunteers

and your children will get a hands-on experience in what it means to be merciful

Find out what kind of volunteer opportunities are

available at our parish Maybe your family can do something that will help others see Godrsquos love and mercy

As we approach Holy Week and the Triduum volun-

teer to assist in some of our much needed ministries - greetersushers hellip altar servers hellip hospitality hellip Easter Egg Hunt on Easter hellip Help with church dec-orations hellip Help watch children for free so that a mom or dad can help in some of these ways

Our monthly focus in the Archdiocese is Forgive of-

fenses willingly and Admonish sinners Check out wwwpdxmercyorg for specific ideas

Plan on attending our Parish Communal Penance

Service on March 9th at 7 PM or for our school chil-dren March 10th at 1245 pm

Jesus asks us to repent but does not punish the sinner Re-pent is the word of Lent ndash and followed by the invitation to believe the good news of the gospel God is not a punishing God A fig tree had three years to get good It is a precious tree because it uses little water This one has not produced its fruit

Is God the one to find good on the tree or the one to give another chance God is the God of the second chance all the time
