zons as you embark on a journey of prayer, fasting, learning and giving, all with an international flavor. This is a calling of Gods mission of Mercy & Char-ity. Together, we can induce tremendous change: “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for right-eousness, for they will be satisfied”.

From the Director… My Brothers and Sisters, The Beatitudes contain pictures of some of the most simple and important ideas of our faith and our attitude toward God and one another. We are not to take them and manipulate them until they are what we want. They give us a clear and concise pic-

ture of what Christ expects of us. They need to be in our everyday vision of how to live our lives and respect the lives of our brothers and sisters. If we can reflect on them regularly, we will become the Christians Christ calls us to be. These Beatitudes represent an unconventional set of values. They are not what the world teaches and are countercultural and will cause ridicule to us as we fol-low them. These teachings can help us to include those on the fringes that the Lord wants us as Christians to include in our lives which build community. We need to have a broad view of God’s Kingdom when doing His will and the Beatitudes are a measure we need to hit if we are to live our lives as God wants. The world pursues happiness in wealth, power, fame and sex, whereas the Gospel demands of us values that are essentially different. “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of Heaven.” No matter what we own or have, we are all called to recognize that every-thing we have comes from God. God will provide for all our needs. This beatitude calls us to be totally de-tached from the things of this world and to seek our true happiness in God alone. This beatitude also calls us to use our gifts, talents, resources, and the things of this world to help all those who are in need to create a better life for everyone. “Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be satisfied.” Most of us have never suffered from severe hunger or thirst, or gone without a meal or never went without water. The hunger that Jesus refers to concerns the hunger for the transcendent; the desire for God is insatiable in this life and can only be satisfied com-pletely in heaven. These Beatitudes contain the most essential aspects of Christian behavior that we need to live in order to reach Christian perfection. It is usually challenging and difficult. God alone offers us all the spiritual means that we need in order to live with conviction in our daily lives. Amen… Amen In Christ, Fr. Michael

IV DOMINGO ORDINARIO
