The top five election winners will be announced at 8 p.m. on May 3, in the Missouri Room and will serve a three-year term on the Board. Not only is it a way to give back to the Club, but the experience is extremely rewarding. Being a Governor is fun. You get to attend and participate in many club events. You will also instantaneously make 14 new friends and meet 10 other new individuals in the two years to follow. Those who serve on the Board are extremely dedicated, hardworking individuals. In other words, they are great people to know. Running for the Board is also a great way to connect with other non-Board Missouri Athletic Club members. You will certainly gain notoriety within the Club, whether or not you win. In fact, running for the Board is half the

Thank you MAC committee members, Board members and Executive Officers for your time, tireless effort and constant commitment to the long term success of the MAC During the past almost 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving this Club as the General Manager. That time comes to an end this month. Working together, staff, membership and governance have achieved many outstanding improvements to the MAC Consider this a short list.

Renovations to the Jack Buck Grill, The Sportsman’s Grill, the gymnasium, locker rooms, MAC garage, Missouri Room, Club entryway, business areas, overnight guest rooms and a very significant improvement to our MAC West location. This only scratches the surface of many of our significant achievements.

These projects are wonderful examples of people working together to accomplish what has contributed to the MAC being a long-standing Platinum Club of America.

Over the course of the last 30 months, we have been challenged by severe economic conditions. The careful planning during this time is reflected in our current condition. I’m pleased to report that our revenues in all departments are exceeding our forecasts and the prior year’s experience. Our cash flow projections are also well ahead in these two categories. The continuing challenges of membership recruitment and retention remain our most important undertaking. Much good work has been done on these fronts and the role that you, as an MAC member can play has never been more important. ARE YOU PLATINUM?

You will soon meet and become acquainted with our new MAC General Manager, Wally Smith. You’ll find him to be personable, focused and a true professional. I will look forward to supporting him in any way that I can, and I know that you will too.

On a personal note, JoAnn, Tyler and I look forward to our future relationship with the MAC. St. Louis is our home! I thank you all again for your friendships, support and counsel through the years. I look forward to seeing you around the Club!

It is my sincere hope and firm belief that Wally Smith will be an excellent manager of our Club. Please welcome Wally and his family with friendliness and support. I don’t know if it was a coincidence or a sign of good things to come, but only a few days after the MAC officially signed Wally to join our organization, the St. Louis Rams signed another accomplished manager from Nashville, Jeff Fisher, to lead them. Wally and Jeff know each other well and have worked on events at Hillwood in the past. The MAC may have the distinction of setting a trend in this regard!

The transitions will continue through February as the next President of the Missouri Athletic Club will be announced in my column next month. The Board will elect the officers for 2012-2013 at a special meeting held on Feb. 2. We have five fine Governors who will be excellent leaders for the club during their final year of service to the Board. Like Wally, I hope and expect they will receive the support and encouragement my class has received. It is truly an honor to serve as an officer of this club.

Until next month, I look forward to seeing you at our club. Before you know it, winter will be giving way to spring and another season of great social and athletic activities at the MAC will be upon us. Please accept my continued good wishes for health and happiness.

I hope this note finds you fully recovered from a holiday season

full of fun and family time. The New Year started off perfectly for me and my wife Alicia as we spent a cozy, festive evening in the Jack Buck Grill. Through the winter months, the busy social calendar remains in place at both of our clubhouses. I hope many of you were able to enjoy great events like the Hermann Trophy Award presentation and banquet and the Art Scavenger Hunt that occurred at the Club during January.

February promises more wonderful events. Be sure to bring your sweetheart to the Valentine’s dance on the evening of Feb. 11 in the beautiful Missouri Room. Before dancing the night away, the members will honor the three exceptional charities designated as the 2012 beneficiaries of the Missouri Athletic Club Charitable Society for Children. What a wonderful way to combine philanthropy and conviviality in one event. I am grateful to Sam Hopmeier and the entire Charitable Society as well as to Jim Sheets and the MAC Dance Club for collaborating on this special evening. Feb. 23 is already marked in red on the calendars of many members, for it is the annual MAC Boxing Matches. This is one of those events that can only happen at a club like the MAC. Members will dress up and celebrate just as members of city clubs have been doing for more than a hundred year to enjoy great amateur boxing as well as the best in food, drinks, “et cetera.” Finally, be sure to join your fellow members for a morning of exercise and an afternoon

of fellowship at the annual Good Fellowship Day on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Downtown Clubhouse. The athletic department has scheduled some fun events and competitions and Joe Dietz and his staff will be ready with plenty of free food and drink on the 4th floor afterwards. Also, this is always the best day of the year to pick up gear in the pro shop. Please join us for this members only event and catch up with friends you haven’t seen in a while as well as the ones you see every day.

As I promised in last month’s column, this month, the Board of Governors is happy to present the new General Manager of our Club, Mr. Wally Smith. You can read a little more about Wally at page 21 of this edition of the Cherry Diamond. It has been a great pleasure to meet Wally and his wife Allison during the search process. Wally impressed everyone with his extensive experience and problem-solving approach to management. Wally has already visited our club a number of times both before and after his selection as General Manager, and I know he is very excited to begin work here at the Club. Wally is a very accomplished and well-regarded club manager who has worked in some very fine clubs throughout the country. Most recently, Wally lead the Hillwood Country Club of Nashville, Tennessee through a long term of membership growth and successful capital expansion. Personally, I know you will find Wally to be outgoing, charming and insightful. I am so grateful to Governor Don Stork and his search committee, to the Board, to Larry Thompson and his executive staff for their hard work and professionalism during this transition.

Fight Fans get ready! Boxing is back this winter at the MAC. The MAC

Boxing Championships will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23. Boxers from the St. Louis Metro Boxing Club will square off against ranked opponents in exciting bouts in various weight divisions.

Boxing boasts a long history at the Club, going all the way back to 1904 when it was admitted to the Olympic Games that year in St. Louis. After its induction into the Olympics, amateur boxing became extremely popular at the MAC. The Club even had its own boxing coach, Tommy Sullivan, who led the Club team.

Famed St. Louis boxer Robert Gresham was given an athletic membership and placed on the MAC team. In 1906, Sullivan took Gresham and four others to San Francisco to compete in the American Amateur Boxing Championship Tour. While Gresham didn’t claim the national title, he gained respect and notoriety around the country.

Gresham represents MAC boxing at its peak, but amateur boxing remained very popular throughout the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s. On Feb. 23, the boxing tradition continues with the Club’s annual Boxing Championships. Don’t miss out on this knock out night of fights.

of hosting great events for sports fans including the Jack Buck Awards, the Hermann Trophy Banquet and the Boxing nights. In February, the Club is excited to introduce another great new sports event to the social calendar, the KMOX Sports Speaker Series.

Host of Sports Open Line, the longest running sports program in the country, Tom Ackerman will emcee an evening with big name sports figures letting loose and sharing their insights. While 2012 will be the first year for the Club to host these events, this is the third year of the Sports Speaker Series. In the past, top St. Louis sports figures including Ozzie Smith, Roger Wehrli, Whitey Herzog, Aeneas Williams, John Mozeliak and

When Lou Ann Wilcox and her stepdaughter Bridget began

Good Fellowship DayFree Food, Fun and Friendship on the Fifth Floor

This year’s Good Fellowship Day will feature several athletic

competitions as well as free fitness classes. The Downtown athletic department will open at 7 a.m. followed by most athletic events and classes that will begin at 9 a.m. Beginning at 11 a.m., food and beer will be served in the Sportsman’s Club on the 4th floor. There will be a sale in the Pro Shop. Events will include a closest-to-the-pin contest, 500m and 2000m rowing and a 3-point contest. Members may also challenge one another for a Club record in swimming.

You can also try out several of the Club’s fitness classes. Instructors will offer five free classes. A two-hour spinning class will be offered from 9-11 a.m. on 5M. From 9-10 a.m. there will be a Core class in the 10th floor Judo Room and Mat Pilates on the 7th floor. Hard Body Yoga will be taught on the 7th floor and Boot Camp in the 10th floor Judo Room from 10-11 a.m. Personal trainers will also be available for free health assessments and to answer any questions.

After hours of activities and workouts, members will be treated to plentiful buffets abound with meats, cheeses and all the cold beer one can handle. For many years, the Good Fellowship Day buffet featured wild game shot by MAC members. However, it wasn’t your typical wild game fare. Featured meats included caribou, antelope and moose.

While Good Fellowship Day has changed through the years, one thing has always remained constant, the focus on MAC spirit and camaraderie. Young or old, this event brings together all members of the MAC to meet new friends, share time with old friends while reliving memories of the past and

creating new memories for the future.Outside of the camaraderie, the best

Attention All Swimmers!

The Club needs your help to compete in the 2012

NACAD Great Lakes Swim. Clubs from around the country will be competing to see who can swim the lengths of four of the five Great Lakes. Last year the MAC placed second in the country! The swim will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 1, and will conclude on Wednesday, Feb. 29. The total distance of the swim is 2,004,040 yards. Only Club members may participate. Help show the country that your Club is the best. Make sure to turn in your laps to Rick Schneider or the athletic desk to get credit. Turn in your laps no matter where you swim them. Don’t let time be a factor in preventing you from working

out anymore. The Downtown Clubhouse offers Express Workout on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:15 a.m. This half hour class will wake you up and get your workout for the day complete before you step in the office.

Express Workout will combine cardio, core, upper and lower free weight exercises along with stretching for a great total body workout in just 30 minutes. The class is open to all fitness levels and age groups.

Fitness Class Schedule Available Online

Fitness classes are a great way to get in shape while having fun with your fellow members. Both Clubhouses offer classes all week long at various

times. The Club is continuously adding new classes to the schedule to keep your workouts interesting and effective.

You can access the fitness class schedule on the MAC website (mac-stl.org). Have you always wanted to try a spinning class but never known exactly when they are held? Maybe you have an extra hour now that your meeting was cancelled. Check out the schedule and find a class that fits in your time slot. The fitness class schedule is divided up between Downtown and West classes. It also features the name of the instructor teaching the class.

Over 40 League Crowns a Champ

The winner of the 2011 Fall Over 40 League was the

team captained by Steve Morovitz. They finished with a 9-1 record. Team Morovitz defeated the team captained by Gerry Burns 46-35 in the championship game. Chris Louis led the league in scoring with 18.5 PPG.

MAC Basketballers Hoop it Up in Tourney

Basketball is more popular than ever at the MAC. In recent

years, an infusion of new members has sparked an increase in the number of players and a jump in the quality of play. Players now have the chance to hoop it up at a tournament this spring. All of the Club’s basketball players are invited to play in the annual tournament.

The games will begin on Monday, March 26, and Tuesday, March 27. Players will play one of the two nights. Games will continue Downtown on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next several weeks, with the top team being crowned tournament champion on Thursday, April 19.

The Club will still hold the annual NCAA Tournament event. Those who are entered in the tournament will not be charged for the tournament banquet on Monday, April 2.

Registration begins on Monday, Feb. 13, through Monday, March 12. Sign up now because space is limited to the first 64 players. Register for the tournament through the MAC website. Click on “Athletics” and then “Basketball.”

We are approaching the last couple of rounds in our

singles and doubles leagues and the playoffs are looming. Good luck to everyone who makes the Finals.

Last month, we had a visit from a very exciting young squash player. Todd Harrity was in town for a wedding and came by to check out our Club and play Yago. Todd is a junior at Princeton, and he grew up playing squash at Merion Cricket Club where he was coached by none other than our very own Yago Cornes. Yago was there for 5 years before joining us here at the MAC.

Todd excelled as a junior, winning every national title and holding the No. 1 ranking in his age group since he was 13. Todd is now the No. 1 ranked collegiate player and the first American to win the College Nationals since it became softball. He is also ranked No. 2 in the U.S. Men’s rankings. Yago did the MAC proud!

On a more somber note, I am sad to announce the sudden passing of Larry Felkner. Larry played doubles at both clubs and was a very lovely guy. We wish his family our sincerest condolences.

As the tennis director the Missouri Athletic Club, I see many players

who are just now taking up or coming back to the game of tennis. If you are one of these players, the best way to get the most out of your game, is to initially sign up for a handful of private lessons. Taking lessons early helps reinforce the correct way to hit the ball and steer you away from bad habits that can creep into your game. If you prefer to get on the court and work on your game on your own, it may be helpful to read the following. Outlined below are the top four mistakes I see made by novice players and ways to avoid or correct these errors. Error: Improper grips for groundstrokesCorrection: Forehand: Place the racquet on the ground. Reach down and pick the racquet up by the grip with your dominant hand. This should give you your forehand grip. Backhand: The backhand grip is held by placing the racquet in your hand as you would a hammer.Tip: In the ready position, start with both hands on the racquet. The dominant hand should be on the grip and the other hand should be above that, either on the neck of the racquet to help maneuver the racquet more quickly and accurately or just above the dominant hand to maneuver better for a two-handed backhand.

Error: Trying to hit too hard or too softCorrection: The power you hit on the ball should be approximately 80-85% of the maximum pace you are physically able to put into your shot.Tip: To find the pace that is right for you, next time you go out and hit, try

hitting three balls in a row -- one with little pace, one with medium pace and one with lots of pace. The medium pace is usually where players find themselves hitting their best. This allows you to have a smooth stroke while not sacrificing too much control.

Error: Hitting the ball as you are leaning away from the net, which often causes the racquet face to be open and in turn causes the ball to go longCorrection: Always move forward to meet the ball.Tip: To help you do this, position yourself behind the baseline a few feet and when the ball comes always try to contact it before it reaches the baseline.

Error: Trying to take everything with your forehand and avoiding backhands at all cost. By doing this, the backhand becomes the weaker shot and the forehand picks up bad habits by your trying to take a shot while you are out of position and should have been hit with your backhand.Correction: Hit all balls coming to your backhand as backhands!Tip: If you would like more forehands in order to keep the ball in play and to build your confidence, ask your hitting partner to aim his/her shots toward your forehand side. Hopefully you will find more balls coming to your forehand and will therefore be willing to try the backhand when it does come your way. Error: Taking too big of a swing on the volleyCorrection: Limit the length of your volley swing to three feet.Tip: With your strings as “the hammer head,” pretend to “hammer” the ball as if you are hammering a nail into a wall. Avoid a large swing that will either bruise your thumb or take out the whole wall!

College soccer’s shooting stars gathered at the Downtown

Clubhouse for the presentation of the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy. The award is regarded as college soccer’s version of the Heisman Trophy and is presented annually to the top male and female players in the country.

Soccer fans gathered in the Art Lounge in anticipation for the press conference where Channel 5 sportscaster Frank Cusumano introduced the top male and female finalists. Club President Tom Albus announced Duke University’s Andrew Wenger as the 2011 men’s MAC Hermann Trophy winner. Stanford’s Teresa Noyola was named the women’s winner.

Wenger led the Atlantic Coast Conference in goals and points which earned him the ACC Offensive Player of the Year award. Wenger’s head coach is John Kerr, who won the first MAC Player of the Year Award while playing for Duke in 1986. Ethan Finlay from Creighton was the first runner-up, followed by Billy Schuler from the 2011 national champion North Carolina Tar Heels.

Noyola scored the game-winning goal in the College Cup final to help Stanford win their first national championship in women’s soccer. She became the third consecutive Stanford player to win the MAC Hermann Trophy, following Christen Press (2011) and Kelley O’Hara (2010). Lindsay Taylor from Stanford and Maya Hayes from Penn State were the runner-ups.

The banquet’s emcee was Bill “Mr. Soccer” McDermott, who interviewed the players, coaches and recognized the Missouri state high school championship teams in attendance.

West Hair Care

The MAC is a place where members turn to take care of

themselves. Whether by working out, enjoying a delicious meal, relaxing or attending an event, the Club is a place for you to come take care of your mind, body and soul.

The West Hair Care center offers services that help you keep up your physical appearance. You can stop in the West Hair Care center Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. or on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The staff of four friendly ladies provides a variety of services that will leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Vicki Lehman is the Hair Care manager. In May, she will have been at the MAC for 26 years. After being a barber at the Downtown Barbershop, she helped open the West Hair Care Center. In addition to the services Vicky provides to members, she orders products, keeps the shop clean, manages the other employees and promotes the shop’s services. Vicki says the best thing about working at the MAC is the people.

“The members feel like family,” said Vicki. “I know some of my client’s whole families. I have cut hair for four generations of the Irace family starting with Joe Irace, then his son John and his son Adam and his son Ethan.”

Vicki relies on two additional stylists, Alisa and Deborah, and a manicurist, Ida, to take care of the needs of members’ families. Alisa McCulley has been at the MAC for six years, but her experience in hair care began in 1991 when she entered into cosmetology/manicuring school.

After working at a salon, she built up her clientele and opened her own salon in 1997. She now runs the salon out of her home.

Alisa is available every Wednesday and offers color, highlights, blow outs and haircuts for men, women and children. Don’t let your wild child scare you from taking him or her for a haircut, Alisa is a pro at handling youngsters.

“My favorite thing about working at the MAC is cutting even the most rambunctious child’s hair,” she said. “I have one of my own at home and have plenty of experience with that. You can also arrange for me to get your child in for a trim while they are in the child care center.”

Whether your child needs a haircut, or you need an updated look, there is always a stylist on duty in the West Hair Care center. Deborah Potter is available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as on Saturdays.

For Deborah, a career in styling was in her blood. She comes from a long line of barbers, which include her dad and her uncle. MAC Selects Wallace L. Smith, CCM (Wally) to be New General Manager

The MAC is pleased to announce Wally Smith as the Club’s new General Manager, following Larry Thompson who served in that role since 1992. Wally arrives in St. Louis after leading the Hillwood Country Club to new heights in Nashville over the last 14 years. Established in 1953, Hillwood CC is a full service country club with an 18-hole golf course, 24 tennis courts, four pools, an extensive spa and athletic facilities at two locations. He also recently served as Managing Director of the Club Managers Association of America Tennessee Chapter and was President in 2004. Prior to moving to Nashville in 1997, Wally managed the Bent Tree CC in Dallas and the Pine Forest CC in Houston and has years of other hospitality experience prior to working in Clubs. The Board and Search Committee unanimously agree that Smith is well prepared to lead the MAC into the future.

“Every private club has its own unique characteristics, but many of the issues and challenges we face are the same,” Smith said. “I am coming from what may be the busiest Club in Tennessee that had two locations, a large membership, a huge food and beverage operation and mission of ‘Outstanding.’ One thing that makes the MAC stand out from other clubs is its rich history, diversity of membership and programs. That is what really appeals to me about the MAC,” Smith said.

February and looks forward to getting his feet on the ground. He believes an effective general manager needs to be an inspirational, consistent leader. “It is critical that we quickly get a handle on the big issues facing the Club,” said Smith. “Then we will need to get everybody in the same boat rowing in the same direction. We should always dare to be great and shoot for ‘Obvious’ Platinum Club Standards in all that we ever do.”

He added, “A top priority is dealing with declining membership levels which, is the largest ongoing challenge facing

private clubs throughout the country.” Wally spearheaded successful efforts to grow the memberships at several Clubs and sees that as job one at the MAC.

He said, “I love it when the club is growing and buzzing with activity and excitement. All of our opportunities have to be captured and then the buzz builds becoming contagious, feeding on itself. Fun stuff for sure.”

As he begins his tenure at the MAC, Wally will quickly become immersed in Club life. He plans to live at the Club for many months and stated, “I’ll know where every light switch is and where every rattle comes from not to mention the buildings needs and opportunities.”

His family will make the transition to St. Louis once his daughter Meghan (18) wraps up her senior year in high school this May. Allison, Wally’s wife, will stay in Nashville moving to St. Louis following the school year. The Smiths have two other daughters currently in college, Anna Beth (22) a Senior at UTC and Emily (20) a Sophomore at UT.

Wally concluded, “Allison and I really look forward to this new chapter in our lives and getting involved with the St. Louis community. This is a thrilling opportunity to be working with the MAC and all the wonderful members and staff. I can’t wait to get started, and with Coach Fisher moving in next door, I can honestly say I’m now a Rams fan.”

When children are equipped with the right skills and knowledge

when entering school, they are more apt to succeed. SouthSide Early Childhood Center’s mission is to help prepare children for kindergarten and beyond through educational resources. The organization was founded in 1886 and serves around 97 children ages 6 weeks to age 5 (pre-kindergarten). SouthSide Early Childhood Center was chosen as one of the MAC Charitable Society for Children’s 2012 benefiting charities.

SouthSide Early Childhood Center (SouthSide) serves families in the South St. Louis neighborhoods. Most families earn less than poverty-level income. More than one-third of the children have a developmental delay or learning disability. SouthSide offers several services for the children.

The SouthSide Learning Center provides quality early childhood education for children up to six years of age to reduce the achievement gap between white and minority students, reduce the number of children in special education programs and repeating grades, improve language and literacy skills and increase the probability that a child will graduate form high school. By offering a safe learning environment, the Learning Center teaches children using a creative curriculum. It is based on child-directed play in centers which include math, science, art, sensory, reading and writing. Development is monitored through vision, hearing, speech, medical, developmental and dental screenings.

An Early Head Start program is also offered for infants and toddlers to improve their health and development. The program offers support for families from prenatal to three years old. Some things included in the program are prenatal care and education, access to physicians, heath screens and immunizations and mental health assistance. The Head Start program also offers center and home-based quality child care where children’s development is monitored and children learn through individualized curriculum.

The SouthSide Early Childhood Center does not just assist children. Parents of children in the program must work or be seeking employment, be in school or in job training. SouthSide supports parents and guardians by providing referrals to a variety of services including food assistance, employment resources, transportation, legal and domestic violence assistance. When their children are in school or at SouthSide, the parents and guardians can focus on work or school to help create economic stability in the family.

MACThrough the Years

1903It was during February of 1903 that a decision was made to change the location of the proposed Club from Fourth and Locust to the building at Fourth and Washington. This move gained the MAC almost twice the floor space.

1936The 20th anniversary of the rebuilt MAC was celebrated in February with an open house and dinner party which filled the club to capacity.

1943When a group of members got together and sang at the annual Victory Banquet the idea was born to form a new MAC Glee Club. The glee club soon came to be known as the Apollos.

1950A large crowd of over 400 gathered in the main dining room for the first annual Golden Gloves stag dinner. The MAC boxing tradition continues today.

1987The MAC, in cooperation with Anheuser-Busch, presented the first MAC Collegiate Soccer Player of the Year award to John Kerr of Duke University. In 2002, the award became known as the MAC Hermann Trophy award.

The Club’s fiscal year runs from September 1 through August

31. The first quarter of our 2011-2012 fiscal year ended on November 30, 2011.

During the first three months of our fiscal year, revenue from departmental operations totaled $2,134,000. This total was $51,594 better than plan and $88,083 ahead of last year.

Membership dues reached $1,803,523. This total was $7,663 less than plan and $29,234 more than last year. Total resident members in November 2011 stood at 1,452 with total dues-paying members of 2,322; the corresponding totals for November 2010 were 1,527 and 2,471 respectively. We had 1,201 Diamond Club members in November 2011, which was 51.7% of the total dues-paying membership; last November’s total was 1,302, or 52.7%, of the total

dues-paying membership.Unallocated costs have accumulated

to $1,843,808 so far this year. This total is $17,904 less than plan and $3,122 less than last year.

Net operating cash flow (net income before depreciation) of $409,595 was generated during the first three months of our fiscal year. This amount is $36,512 better than plan and $89,680 greater than last year.

Capital expenditures during the quarter totaled $26,790. Of this total, $4,794 was spent downtown and

The Club ended 2011 with $169,601 of unrestricted cash on its balance sheet, compared to $185,842 at the end of 2010.

The Club’s long-term debt at the end of 2011 was $7,800,826 and the Corporation had long-term debt of $1,769,052. The corresponding num-bers at the end of 2010 were $8,398,028 and $2,007,612, respectively. At the end of 2011, the balance on the Club’s line of credit was $333,145; the balance at the end of 2010 was $675,858.

Specialized Sports Conditioning at MAC West

Athletes age 12 and older can

keep in shape during the off season or while playing their sports with a new conditioning class offered at MAC West. The class will include agility and speed training, safe and effective weight training instructions, nutrition education before and after your workout, competition nutrition and body weight regulation education.

Equipment used will vary from Reebok steps, dumbbells, medicine balls, physio balls and barbells to an agility ladder and cone drills. The exercises will help to create a quicker athlete who explodes on the court or field. Specialized Sports Conditioning is offered on Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m. A new session will begin on Feb. 13. The four-week session costs $125. Athletes will work with MAC personal trainer and registered dietitian David Vandeven as well as conditioning and speed specialist Coach Eric Saxton. Spring Break Sports Camp

If an out of town trip isn’t in your plans for spring break, your family can still feel like it is getting a break from school at MAC

West’s Spring Break Sports Camp. Your kids will be psyched to spend the day playing sports and making new friends, while you will get the chance to take some time for yourself. The camp is similar to the holiday and summer sports camps. Participants will play tennis, squash, racquetball, kickball, dodge ball, flag football, soccer, basketball and more sports.

The dates are March 19-23, March 26-30 and April 2-6. The cost is $25, per half day or $50 per full day. The full day camp includes lunch. Participants must sign up per day. Ease Into Etiquette

The MAC is offering a social ease program at the West Clubhouse

for children ages 5-12 beginning Monday, Feb. 13. The five-week course will focus on children’s manners. There will be four weeks of instruction concluding with a graduation dinner on March 12, the final week.

Your children will participate in activities that encourage confidence in social situations. Class topics will include first impressions, introductions, travel manners, vacation situations, international courtesies, table manners and more. The MAC program has been customized to also incorporate Club rules.

The class will be taught by Melenie Broyles of Etiquette St. Louis. Broyles teaches at Nordstrom and clubs throughout St. Louis. She founded Etiquette Saint Louis ten

Ron Hauser or, “The Canvas Cowboy” is the artist of the

month in the MAC Art Gallery. Growing up in Oklahoma, Texas, and Southwestern Missouri paired with his Native American Heritage have strongly influenced his work. His Traveling Western Art Gallery titled, “Painting for a Purpose” has been displayed at art shows around the country and was featured in American Cowboy magazine in their January/February issue in 2005.

She has worked in corporate human resources for 12 years prior to starting Etiquette Saint Louis.

The MAC Social Ease Program will be held at MAC West from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13-March 5. On March 12, a special graduation dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $145 per child, inclusive. Suggested dress code for girls is skirts for the first four weeks and a nice dress for the graduation dinner. Boys should wear a polo/oxford shirt and no jeans for class.
