Make A Book Exhibition Cork 2015

A selection of photographs from our trip to Cork for the JCSP Make A Book Awards 2015

Last Monday January 19th 6DE went to the Lime Tree Theatre where they participated in The Othello Session. They were accompanied by Ms. Ware and Ms. A. O’ Sullivan. This Interactive session explored and analysed some of the main theme’s and topics of the Shakespearian play Othello ,such as Racism, Jealousy , Manipulation , Appearance V’s Reality ,Revenge and Good V’s Evil.

Several rounds of quizzes and puzzles completed each act .Our own ‘Rachel Waters’ represented St. Nessan’s to the delight of all and took to the stage to perform a scene in the final Act. Well done Rachel !!You did us proud !!.

Here is a flavour of some of 6DE’s favourite quotes from OTHELLO...

‘‘My Service which I have done the Signiory Shall out tongue his complaints ‘‘ -Othello – This quote highlights how highly regarded and confident Othello was at the beginning of the play in contrast to the tragic hero at the end. – Aoife O ‘Carroll.‘’Look to her Moor ,if thou hast eyes to see ,she has deceived her father and may thee’’ –Brabantio – Makes us (the audience) weary of Desdomona .She has after all deceived her father .Aaran O’Keefe & Kelsey Ryan‘’I am not what I am ‘’ – Iago –Shows Othello’s two facedness – Rachel Waters & Dervela Ryan‘’I follow him to serve my turn upon him’’ – Iago – Indicates the trouble that lies ahead .Iago personifies evil –Jack Walters ,Leah O’ Brien, Erin Sheehan , Jennifer O’ Carroll‘’That there be women do abuse their husbands In such gross kind ? ‘’ –Desdemona – Shows her innocence which borders on the naive .Naoimi Kelly‘‘An old black ram Is tupping your white ewe’’ –Iago – Shows vulgarity , Racism and evilness of Iago – Jessica Lam‘’Be sure to prove my love a whore’’ – Othello – Shows Othello’s insecurities and how he can not tolerate uncertainty. Roman Petunov.‘’O , beware, my lord of jealously ! It is the green eyed monster which doth mock The meat it feeds on’’ – Iago – The irony of Iago advising Othello not to be jealous .It is ironically prophetic as Othello becomes consumed by his own jealousy.‘‘So will I turn her virtue into pitch And out of her own goodness make the net That shall enmesh them all ’’ – Iago will exploit Desdemona’s virtues.‘’Unkindness may do much And his unkindness may defeat my life ,but never taint my Love’’ – Loyal wife to the end .The embodiment of purity and goodness.‘’Then must you speak Of one that loved not wisely ,but too well’’ A remorseful Othello in the final scene finally recognises that he is the architect of his own downfall , but all too late !

BE COOL _ STAY IN SCHOOL SMILE School Completion ProgrammeNewsletter Coordinator: Michael O’Connor

Our U16 rugby panel took part in a development training day held in Tarbert. Students benefitted from extensive coaching in all areas of Rugby while also taking part in a hotly contested match in front of a large supportive crowd. This day proved to be a great team building exercise and everyone from both schools really enjoyed it. In the coming weeks another development day is planned which will see Tarbert visiting St. Nessan’s C.C.

The U15 rugby squad competed in the Cleary Cup competition. Following the first round game against Killaloe which was played in extremely cold conditions we found ourselves having to face our neighbours Villiers. This was a very close contest for long periods of game with neither side stepping back from big hits and tries being scored by both teams. Unfortunately, we were struck with a series of bad injuries which saw our captain Dylan Ryan (Broken nose), Scrum half Jason Keane (Mouth injury) and Hooker Niall Keane (Ripped calf) having to leave the field of play. This handed the initiative to Villiers who capitalised greatly from the changes. All our players gave 100% in both games and after these tough ties have now been drawn against competition favourites Cashel Community School in the quarter finals to be played on Friday 6th of March in Cashel RFC.
