Sentence Errors – Basic VocabularyRun-on sentence = 2 or more independent

clauses linked together with a comma, or with no punctuation at all.

The party last night was fun, I arrived late to class this morning. (run-on sentence)

Independent clause = a group of words that contains a subject and a verb, makes sense together, and can stand alone as a complete sentence

Sentence ErrorsIndependent clause I arrived late to classReading is fundamental. (“Reading” = gerund)Gerund = verb used as a noun (subject) Playing in the park was fun as a kid. (“Playing in the

park” = gerund phrase)Dependent clause = a group of words that contains a

subject and a verb, makes sense together, but cannot stand alone as a complete sentence (usually because it contains a subordinating word)

A dependent clause needs to be attached to an independent clause (or add more words, or eliminate the subordinating word).
