An introduction fromDuffield Arts Festival Coordinator Jonathan Leach

I’m thrilled to have led a great team in staging the first-ever Duffield Arts Festival. There are so many people we would like to thank and these are all on page 27 of this brochure. Without the collective of great people in Duffield we would not have been able to stage the festival.

The theme of the festival is Discovery - it’s about discovering new things, discovering Duffield and its people, and enjoying new experiences.

You will see in this brochure that you will be treated to a wide range of entertainment, from drama sessions for the very young to ballet workshops from an internationally famous ballerina. From stilt walkers to fascinating talks. From a vast array of wonderful singers to some incredible musicians. There really is something for everyone!

We are absolutely delighted with all the entries for the three competitions: Short Story, Colouring and Photography. The standard has been so incredibly high. The winners will receive their prizes at the Opening and Award Event taking place at 6.15pm on the 16th of September - an evening not to be missed, with author and motivational speaker Andy Cope, Duffield Singers, harpist Laura-Rose Gee and singer Andy Quinn.

A festival bursting with fun!

The Scarecrow Trail will take place across the village, and at the time of going to print there are 35 scarecrows entered. For everyone who enters a scarecrow will be invited to a special afternoon tea at 5pm on the 2nd of October.

We hope you will support the festival by going to many of the events and having a good time, by volunteering or by simply buying raffle tickets or donating. The festival is a not-for-profit event. We have spent many a day pulling this together because we love being in Duffield, care about our community and want to make something special that people will enjoy and will bring everyone together.

Enjoy!

Best wishesJonathan

Hear many a tragedy and experience the anguish. So we keep this one off experience unique for you, we are only offering very limited places.

Not recommended for the faint hearted or under 16s.Tickets are £18 each, there is a limit of 30 per night. Available from Duffield News, Duffield

Library, Croots Farm shop and online at www.duffieldartsfestival.com.

Duffield Carpets

The Star Princess by Sophie Snell 6pm to 6.45pm on Sunday the 18th of September at the Weston Centre, Tamworth Street.

The wonderful Sophie Snell will be casting her magic over

Duffield for the arts festival. She will be taking us through

the delightful story of The Star Princess.

In a magical, sun-warmed orchard, a star-crossed romance

blossoms. But the young gardener's boy is as far removed

from his royal sweetheart as could be and he will have

to be both bold and clever if he is to win the hand of

a princess. A mischievous and enchanting concoction

of beautiful traditional oral

storytelling and song, perfectly

pitched for all the family.

Bring your teddies and dolls and

snuggle up for a magical event.

There are now a very limited

number of tickets available.

Tickets are just £2.50 and

are on sale at Duffield News

and Duffield Library or from

www.duffieldartsfestival.com.

Refreshments will be available.

Children must be accompanied,

adult’s and children's tickets are

the same price.

SCARECROW TRAIL

A brilliant scarecrow trailMany villagers are creating scarecrows which will

form part of a fantastic Scarecrow Trail.

In fact, to date 35 scarecrows are being made.

If you are in Duffield, and haven’t started making

your scarecrow yet, don’t worry, you still have time

to register before the end of August. Scarecrow

making is a terrific craft project for the whole

family to enjoy. You don't need to be a great artist

or be a carpenter to make a wonderful scarecrow.

You just need some imagination and be

willing to have a go.

The theme is 'Our favourite Book'. To register your

scarecrow, please send the title and where it will be

to [email protected]. or call Gail Lowe

on 07769 696951

For the trail scarecrows can be put out any time

before the festival, but will need to be put out by

midday on the 17th of September. Scarecrows will

be voted on and then everyone who has made a

scarecrow will be invited to a special afternoon tea,

where the winners will be announced.

I would like to invite you to be part of this exciting session of sustained piano playing as part of our first ever Duffield Arts Festival!

If you are a piano player and would enjoy playing to a friendly audience, then this is for you. You can play either on your own, with a duet partner or in a 4 or 6 hands piece 'on the spot'. I will provide sheet music for impromptu groupings, and will also be contributing. Any age or level is welcome and the duration of any piece is something we can chat about. Not a pianist…then bring another instrument! Do also invite your friends and family to come along. Or just pop along to listen. There will be tea and cup cakes too!

The afternoon will be a fund-raiser split between the Alice Gross Youth Music Memorial Fund www.alice.poppymadeleine.gross.muchloved.com and the Duffield Arts Festival.

Alice Gross was tragically murdered in August 2014. All participants are invited to contribute any amount. It’s a relaxed afternoon with fluid timings, but I will give you a rough timeslot. Updates will be on my WordPress site: www.beatetoykapianist.wordpress.com

For more information, and to take part please contact Beate a.s.a.p. at [email protected]

There will be some great jobs to do including:• Venue Setter Upper

• Steward/Wristbander,

• Prize Draw and Tombola Ticket Seller

• Steward

• Information Point Personnel, Car Park Assistant

• Litter Picker/Recycling Operative and Taker Downers.

• The festival is a not-for-profit event run by volunteers.
